Bushnell Pro XE Rangefinder

Recommended Posts

I stopped in at the local PGA Super Store yesterday and saw that Bushnell' premier rangefinder, the Pro XE, was being offer with a $70 discount.  Still a steep tariff at about $475, but it made me think that there is something new in the pipeline.  I can't think of much you could add to this product.  It already has slope, 7X magnification and 1300 yards of range (I don't have a 1300 yard club).  What would you expect in a product upgrade?

I have the Pro XE Slope, just because of credit won (my second Pro XE - left the first on a cart).  At the retail price, IMHO it is overpriced.  Perhaps the case is a little more robust for the times you drop it, and it does have good features - but overall it is overpriced.  You can buy two different cheaper range finders for the price of this one.

To your point it always makes me think there is another iteration coming when there are price drops.  Not sure what features can be improved....

They have a new one coming out in the spring. will have all the same features of Pro XE but a new addition of wind reading. You heard correctly, wind reading witch will be adjusted into the distance reading on the unit.

Like my previous question in another Pro XE thread I assume that the wind information will be piped from the phone via app as having a built in wind meter would be out of the question. Other units like the Garmin Z82 and I believe one of the Precision Pro units give wind into (however I think the Z82 just gives wind speed/direction but the slope number isnt then further changed to reflect the wind adjusted distance).

Elements and slope function on my XE quit working (probably one too many hard drops) so I’ve been waiting to see what new stuff is released this spring. Wind seems exciting but if it’s through an app it’s probably more complicated to operate than is worth it for me. I just imagine a Bluetooth connection is necessary. Bluetooth range is terribly short outside where there’s nothing for the signal to bounce off. It’s the reason why Arrcos requires the phone stay in the pocket. I just don’t foresee myself adding anything to my pockets on the course. I’m picky about clutter in my pockets on the golf course. A tee, divot tool, and ball marker are all that’s currently allowed in my pockets(I hate things in my pockets in general). Plus, assuming it’s an app, I doubt it’ll account for how trees, slope and other features of golf course terrain are affecting the wind conditions.

Of course everything I just said is just speculation so I’m willing to wait and see.

I have a pro XE I have been gaming for 6 months or so. Gave my lower end model to my FIL. Definitely regret the purchase a bit, I don't really feel like the pro XE has added a ton of value to warrant the retail price. It is relatively reliable at finding yardages (sans a couple of foggy mornings), but I very very rarely get the jolt feature that confirms you hit the pin. For the top of the line price I want all the features to work great every time. There are definitely times where it zaps something in the background and gives you 75+ yards over the actual yardage. I always have to zap a couple times and use my noggin just to confirm the number makes sense. Other than that it picks up pins quick and the numbers rarely vary more than 1 yard when zapping the same stick.

I would say features that could be improved are more confirmed pins (using the jolt feature) and maybe the fog performance (not sure if that is a technical limitation or what).

The zapping background items has been a big issue for mine. I spoke with a Bushnell rep recently who assured me that shouldn’t be an issue and walked me through a reset. Hoping that cleans things up as the numbers have been spot on when it works correctly.

Have you used it after the reset? Did you have any issues with getting the flags to give you the "jolt" they are supposed to?

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
