Garmin CT10 & AutoShot

I just upgraded my Garmin watch to the new EPIX and am excited for the Autoshot feature. Haven't fully tested it yet, but I do know that it won't read all your 'softer' shots, like chips and putts...so they recommend to use the CT10 sensors to track those shots, instaed of manually entering them.

Does anyone have experience in using their sensors for just short shots? Was it reliable? I read some other posts on here about the CT10 falling out the butt of the club, which isn't promising. It is a pretty penny to purchase 3 sensors (2 wedges and putter I presume) -- $75. So wanted to see if anyone had any feedback using them, or if I should just not worry about it and manually input things into the app/watch.

They are expensive. Prohibitively so, in my opinion. However, if you do buy them, your issue won't be having the sensors not pick up short shots. It will be having to eliminate all of the shots that show up that were actually just you taking a practice swing or two with your wedge and brushing the ground when you do it. Have to do some of that after every round if you care enough about your short game stats to try and make it as accurate as possible.

Depends on what you want to get from them.

If you have a good memory you can edit in the spots of your chips in the app or the website dashboard post round.

If you are looking to track accurate full swing club distances you will want to pass on sensors on wedges otherwise Garmin picks those up and counts them in your full swing averages.

I ended up not using them on wedges and instead post round added in the hits OR post swing I'd take a harder fake swing so the watch picks up the hit and mark that as a "fake wedge" so it doesn't count it as a PW full swing and mess up full swing distance data (lots of posts about this issue here and in the garmin forums).

On the putter the sensor is ok. Picks up putts and kinda gives you some ok data on putt accuracy based on distance.

But that data is sketchy at best. No way to mark pin location so whatever Garmin is calculating (And they sure don't explain what they are calculating or how it is calculated) seems really hard to believe or see any value.

Overall, I'd say the stat value of you get from those CT10s just isn't worth the purchase and the hassle of having them on your clubs.

I really don't even believe Garmin is committed to these things. I'd wait to see how much they improve how they are used.

Great info guys, thank you!! That's just what I needed. I guess I'll try and just manually add the shots for now and see how that goes.

I'm surprised it's that sensitive to pick up practice swings...I thought you needed to impact a ball (or something) for it to register?

I did go walk 1 hole the other day and use Autoshot, and while it tracked it while I was out there, when I went back it didn't record any distances. Does Garmin only store the data if a round is 'completed'?
