Need low to mid spin & launch driver shaft

I am 65 yoa, driver swing speed 85 - 89 mph... current shafts are high launch resulting in ballooning... need to get lauch lower. 

 

Hit my sons Hzdus 6.0 smoke low spin, liked it fairly well, but it was a bit to stiff for my liking. Thinking 5.0 / 5.5 low/mid spin may be what I seek.... Open to any shaft suggestions, but not looking for $200+ shafts....  

 

Any suggestions appreciated...

If that's the case, the shaft isn't your best option for lowering the flight.   Lower launching shaft means stiffer.   Actually, it's rarely the best option for trying to manage trajectory.   For most ams the shaft just doesn't really have much of an effect unless you have a late release - and even then it's marginal.   For those that do see larger changes from the shaft it means the shaft stiffness feel is influencing the swing and mechanics.  For those people it's much more important to pick the shaft based on the feel and consistency of the impact and ball flight, then use loft to manage the trajectory.   But even that will be limited in what you can do, the trajectory (especially with a driver) is dominated by your swing, not the equipment.

 

However, first before changing anything, get some foot powder spray and check your face impact location and consistency.  If impact is high on the face, you're going to get a high launch angle no matter what you do with the shaft or head or loft.   Face impact needs to be checked - and if needed fixed before you do anything else.

There's nothing wrong with high launch.  The very best drivers in the world hit it high, but manage spin.  If you're ballooning, it's because of your strike.  Too much spin and probably an off-centred strike is your culprit.  

 

If the Smoke was "a bit stiff for your liking", but it performs, what's the problem?  Sounds like you may be comfortable with something whippier that launches high, but that may also be contributing to your problem.

What loft are you playing? It would help this discussion.  Lowering launch via strictly a shaft change is difficult. Loft has a more direct result in launch and spin.

A good R-flex mid-spin should work well. Diamana S+, Tensei AV RAW Blue, Tensei AV Blue (2022).

The HZRDUS smoke yellow 5.5 might be worth a look. Counter balanced with a nice low/low mid profile.

Aldila NV green or the new NV next gen in regular. Low mid launch low spin for me. Very stable feeling shaft. Best thing they can be found pretty cheap.
