I have read his write up, the small error (2mm for 4 degree lie angle difference) that he calculates thru math analysis doesn't seem to match my real life measurements. I use a Golfsmith ruler that has an adjustable lie plate so I can set the plate at whatever lie I want, I use a Klein Digital Angel Gauge to set the lie angle. As I mentioned above my Ping 54 degree wedge is adjusted to a 68 degree lie angle, if I measure the wedge length with the lie plate set at 60, 64, and 68 degrees the length increases 3/16" going from 60 to 64 degrees and another 3/16" going from 64 to 68. So, I'm seeing a .187" change in length for a 4 degree lie angle change vs the 2mm (.087") he calculates, that's more than double and a significant length change (.375") when you look at the 8 degree difference. Would be interesting to see the measurements of others that have the capability to vary the lie angle and take measurements. His calculations seem to be based on a driver that has a lot more sole curvature than a typical iron, maybe that makes a difference.

That's a 4* difference from the Wedge used by Tutelman.  

 

General iron head size has increased over time so I'm also guessing modern wedges are a bigger (longer heel to toe) than the older wedge he used for his test.

Yes can have some influence.   But on top of that (and likely more importantly), the much large volume of modern drivers will play a part as well. 

 

That bigger heel to toe distance means more distance from the shaft line to the naturally soled position on the block - and that means more of a difference in the reading when the lie angle of the block changes.
