International World Tour Course

Recommended Posts

Myrtle Beach, SC
Has anyone played the International World Tour Golf Course in MB, SC?

IS it worth playing or too contrived?

That is what I have heard. I might be down that way in late March....

Looking at these 3, but need 1 more:

Dunes Club

True Clue

Caledonia Golf + Fish Club

Prefer a course in southern MB ?????

If you are going to be there late March let me know.

True Blue and Caledonia are part of the same complex. Mike Strantz designed both courses and hear I they are both amazing. I would love to play either or both of those.

And those courses are just south of Myrtle Beach.

I will, we'll need a fourth and better yet, someone who can really play!

As long as the wife has the twins prior to that a bit and I have the dining room finished (painting, etc...) she is graciously allowing me to go...)

HA!

Pawley's Plantation?

My parents live in Myrtle Beach and I take about 4 trips there a year so I've played quite a few. I've played all 27 holes at World Tour and for the price it is overrated. The holes are similar to the actual holes but they aren't anything special. Since it is set in the low country area it's difficult to make the holes look entirely like the real thing. If you get a package with the course included it is interesting but for the price there are much better courses. Prestwick is a hidden gem (look for my parents house on the 14th). Tradition is an ok course on the south end. I might be able to make a trip down in late March and we could get the local rate at some courses =).

SOMEBODY is cold and bored!!

Dunes/Blue/Caledonia fer sher. Play the new Founder's Club just south of TB/Caledonia so you can tell me what its like. Either that or Grande Dunes, which is real close to Dunes Club...

Sure Jon, but if it sucks, you will refund my greens fees, lunch and a case of Pro V1x...deal?

I have played world tour and it is fun, but a little pricey . The courses are in great shape and the service is excellent . The courses were a lot of fun but, have a few quirks . You will hit over a green and there might be water there and you didn't know it because its not supposed to be there but is part of another hole. The St andrews holes are good and so is the Valderrama hole . If you dont play there, Wachesaw plantation east is real nice and its in murrels inlet south of MB, . Also Tom Doak designed a course at the legends called Heathland , its no bandon dunes but is pretty fun and really cheap. Hope this helped.

Love the Heritage Club, definitely a must play! We decided not to play World Tour from same advice...expensive and better deals to be had in Myrtle.

Just be aware that Caledonia and True Blue are now $170.00. I'm going down in Late March and hope to play an extra round in the afternoon on the 28th. Any suggestions? Anyone have rainchecks they want to sell?

Pawley's Plantation is in rough shape from what I hear. They apparently changed owners and are trying to make improvements.

Going to be there March 9-14th. I think we'll end up playing Man-o-war, the Dunes, and Pine Lakes Intl. It looks like the middle of March splits their seasonal rates down the middle, with the later half being more expensive. If you book tee times of golfdesk.com, they have some reasonable rates as does lastminutegolfer but theyre fairly limited in their selection.

For you guys that normally go there or live there, whats the best way to get decently priced tee times?

I played it in August, and it was fun, but don't expect the replicas to even be CLOSE to the real thing. They treat you very well, and the conditions in August were superb, but I was disappointed in the discrepancies between the real holes and the replicas. For example, #11 at Augusta. The replica is a pretty flat hole with very little slope to the green. The only similarity is that there is water left of the green. The St. Andrews holes are really nice, but the Valderrama hole is no longer in existence, as the International 9 has been closed and will turn into condos. I wouldn't necessarily call it overpriced, but for the money, you can play much more challenging and beautiful courses in the area. I would suggest True Blue and Caledonia, Barefoot (any are fine), Glen Dornoch, Tidewater, Shaftesbury Glen (easy but beautiful), Dunes, Grande Dunes, or maybe The Thistle.

I agree the Glens are a good choice. Played Glen Dornoch when I was down after Christmas and it was in great shape. Tidewater is also a good pick. Greens are usually quick and roll pretty true.

I have also heard that World Tour is overrated and overpriced. The Dunes Club is at the top of my list. Great layout, great condition and they treat you first class. Grand Dunes is also a very good layout that is usually in great shape. The Surf Club is a good layout but the condition is hit and miss. Caledonia is fun to play but get on the tips or you will not enjoy.

World Tour is nice, but I wouldn't go back. Just too many of the holes are side by side. I felt like I needed a hard-hat when playing. We had a large group (20), and the service was great....the course was ok, not great.

As for your other choices -- all top notch!!! Dunes and Caledonia are a little better than True Blue, IMO (not that TB isn't nice, just not as much my style). As for other courses in that area, I don't think you could go wrong with Heritage Club. It used to be a sister property of Caledonia and True Blue but moved to the Legends group. It has the Spanish Moss/oak tree feel of Augusta as does Caledonia. VERY difficult from the tips......Another option would be Wachesaw Plantation (sp?)...it's been given high praise as of late. Prestwick is a good option as well, but not quite the same as the others I mentioned, IMO.....

I go to Myrtle once or twice a year (for a while now) and played pretty much all of the 'top rated' courses so if you have any other question that I might be able to answer, feel free to PM me.

Nice that you all agree on World Tour. It's seems like a cheap replica, however, everytime I've played the conditions have been just superb. It's just supposed to be some fun, not break down and notice that it really doesn't resemble the holes at all. :) Can't help you on the south strand, but I've heard that True Blue is a stellar course if you don't mind dropping $180 on a 5 hour round.

World Tour is definately overpriced...but it is definately worth playing at least once. I just wish it had a little more variety and mroe recognizable holes. Pay the $$$$ and play it at least once, like any of the good MB courses the service is top notch and course quality is phenominal. Having played it once, I will not play it again just becuase the $ is too high with soo many other great courses in the area. God I love living here.......................You should consider a trip to the Southern Pines/Pinehurst area as well, but much less shopping for the wives.

  • 5 months later...

I have to respectfully disagree with anybody who says you have to play this course at least one time in your life. We played there today and the greens were so long that you had to hit 15 foot putts as hard as you would hit a 50 foot lag putt at any other course. We were not told about the greens prior to booking our tee time at $90 a head.

As far as the authenticity of the holes. If you go in there with any expectations, you will be very dissappointed. The holes are shaped like the originals, and have the same bunker locations, but it stops there. For example, 80% of the beauty of amen corner is everything that is around it: trees, flowers, etc.... You don't get that feeling here at all. The holes are just simply shaped like them

Would recommend if you got a $40 rate, but like many others have said, there are much better courses for that kind of money in the area!
