I'm trying to convince my wife that Knoxville is the ideal spot for our retirement in 5-10 years. It will depend where our kids end up with their families so we can have reasonable access to spend time with the grandkids that should be arriving around that same time frame from at least 1 of them. A place like HH is part of ideal retirement plan to be somewhere I can walk 18 just about every day, and if I can't play a full round, at least get out and practice in some way on the range or chipping / putting. I have way too much ADD to waste retirement being a lazy bum sitting on the couch, so a walkable course that's also got a ton of character that I won't get bored of is a must.

Tellico Village has three good 18's and a lot of other good golf nearby. Not sure how walkable they are, but it's a really popular retirement destination.

FWIW the "Knoxville" airport is actually in Alcoa and relatively close to Maryville. Holston is on the opposite side of the Greater Knoxville area.

The courses at Tellico Village are tough to walk. The Links at Kahite is probably the easiest to walk and most unique. Pot bunkers and the longest? Hole in the US.

Completely agree, my In-Laws live there and I have walked them all (when I was younger and in better shape). You can do it, but would not call them walkable due to the hills.

With that said - that area which is 30-45 outside of Knoxville is a great area for golf. The 3 courses at Tellico Village which are starting to host TGA events (State Match Play was just at Kahite), and then you have semi-private options like Rarity Bay, and Wind River to mix it up. Throw in Tennessee National (private) and you have lots of great golf all around. Throw in the lake life and it is a pretty compelling retirement spot.

I rarely post on the WRX forums. I’m a member at Holston. My son is considering joining as a non-resident member. I believe the number of golfing members as of last week was 397. Tee times are tight on weekends. There is a noon dogfight on Thursday. The pro shop will be helpful in finding you a game. Call the club and they will give you the information you need.
