Dunlop Maxfli irons

Just wanted to share a recent find from the thrift store. Saw these looking sad and rusty on the shelf tugging at my heart strings. Took them home to give some love. Grips are leather and say Dunlop on the bottom hand area so I'm wondering if original? Shafts are Dunlop Maxpower S flex. Not sure if original.

 

Wondering what year approx these would be, saw a post in a relevant threat a few years back and they look almost exactly like the 1967 Maxfli irons but feature line on the club head is shorter. Wondering if anyone can tell me for sure. 

 

Anyways cleaned them up a bit not great but serviceable. Will try to polish them nicer maybe as time goes on. You can see the whole set pictured here with my also newly acquired Macgregor VIP 1 and 3 Woods.

This is the before shot of the 5 iron which was in the worst shape rust wise. Also the add of the 1967 maxfli. Note the differing length of feature line on the graphic.

Excellent job cleaning them up. That face shot reminds me of Ram Tour Grinds

Thanks! I will be taking them out to the range as soon as I get the chance. Some of the heavier rusted spots are tough to completely get rid of. Any suggestions?

Nice irons, very Hogan Precision in appearance, and good job on the clean up, are these chromed steel or stainless?

 

As to the date, Dunlop were making clubs in several factories around the world by this time so it's not surprising to see differences in the detail, I'd guess that yours fit the 1967 date.

Thanks. If I had to guess I'd say they are stainless. They don't seem as shiny as my other chromed steel irons, and there's no sign of chipping in the chrome which I would expect to see based on the condition I found them in. If course I could be wrong as I don't know much and am very new to collecting old clubs. 

 

Thanks for confirming the date a bit. I have heard in previous threads that dunlop have a bit of a confusing history as to their clubs being made in and for several different markets around the world.

Those _are_ pretty clubs! I especially like the wrapped leather grips - I hope those are still playable.

 

I wouldn't think they're stainless steel though. That was a lot of rust 🙂

I would be very surprised if they were stainless.  If that page that you posted is from the Maltby Club Identification guide it should tell you the head material in the Maxfli 1967 chart.

I owned the irons in 1975 and the woods a few years earlier. The irons are definitely forged and chromed.
