It’s also $40 per person for cart fees and mandatory walking with caddy on the  East course, so expenses above and beyond the $1000 dues per month.

they call it a “private golf club” within the PGA Frisco facility, which seems like a weird way to say “semi-private”

Wow. $1000 plus mandatory caddie. For a semi-private.

I guess there must be a market for it? But seems crazy to me.

Looks like it will be $311 on weekends.

I’ve played the West about 5-6 times now and the East twice. The East is definitely a championship test but the West is gettable and scoreable. I’m interested to see how it is received once more players get to see it.

Damn!  Your connections must be top notch!

Going to play on Wednesday morning, course seems pretty wide open. Will report back!

Please do! I’m jealous. Would love to play out there. I saw a flyover of a few holes on the local news. Looks great. Seems like driving accuracy will be paramount. The holes I saw went pretty quickly from first cut to scrub brush.

Yean if you get outside the playing corridors you're screwed. 70 % plus of the land is unmaintained floodplain.

Made it out to PGA Frisco West Course today. I'll try and break up my notes into a few sections.

Check-in:

The Clubhouse seems very nice, though I didn't spend much time there. There is a restroom which has 2 showers and lockers available. I did not inquire about using the locker room. It's worth noting that the green fee does not include cart, so it totals out just over $340. I can't imagine not using a cart on that course.

Practice Areas:

First off, Titleist ProV1 Practice balls, nice touch. The green is massive so you won't have any trouble finding any type of putt to work on. The chipping greens seemed very small, but they had balls out to hit which was nice. The driving range was in great condition, again has the ProV1 practice balls. Just grab a bag and get started.

Course:

The course was in great shape - played from Tee II which is about 6,700 yards. The course is Bermuda grass but I didn't feel like it was overly grainy in a lot of areas, just 1 chip I felt the grain really bad. The fairways were pretty large. I hit around 70% of fairways which is great for me (was hitting it well too). It was difficult to hold the greens unless you had a fairway lie and a short iron - we ended up long unexpectedly several times.  The pin positions were rather harsh today, seemingly trying to make it extra difficult for the opening. There were a lot of pins near shelves and on tiny plateaus on the green. It would be helpful to have a yardage book showing the green contours as you have to be in the right area. I feel like they could setup the pins to be a lot more fun if they wanted to.

Food & Beverage:

Nothing really to note here, got a breakfast taco and a drink at the turn. Golf course prices. I didn't stay to eat on property. They do put 2 water bottles in your cart.

Overall:

It was a very nice course and experience. Someone in our group got a fore-caddy. I've never had one before, didn't find it necessary. I think a yardage book would have been better (I'm sure they'll improve w/ time). The course seemed very easy off the tee, but the green complexes made life a lot more difficult. I'm not sure it is quite worth the price tag but it isn't too far off. It also makes some of the other nice courses in the area look like a bargain.

Great write up, thanks! When you were off the fairway were you in the marshy areas at all? If so how playable was that?

I did end up in the area a couple of times, I think they call it native area. It was fine to play out of if you had some loft, but could be a little tricky to find. I lost 2 balls, both in a native area, both I felt like we're still up somewhere, just hidden.

That’s honestly better than I would have expected. Being “native area” we're lucky to be able to play out of it at all. I’ve played courses where areas like that were protected for local flora/fauna reasons.

A $40 cart fee seems like total BS when you are already paying $277 or $222(resident) to play the course.

I usually walk when the weather is not 100 degrees.  Why do you say you can't imagine walking the course?  Long stretches between holes or the hills on the course?

I was thinking more due to long stretches between some holes, but now that you mention it, elevation changes as well - they must have moved a lot of dirt. I feel like it could be difficult to maintain pace (4hr 20) walking.

The hills aren't huge. But every hole has hills. So lots of down and up. I think it's great but probably slows down walking for some.

I stayed at the Omni and played both courses this week. The West was a great time if you kept it in the fairways. They are very wide but once the fairway ends high brush begins and you're more than likely taking a drop. The greens were a little on the slow side but very undulating and somewhat receptive to good shots. We still had to play short of the pin and let the ball run out to the hole. Overall, a good mix of long and short holes.

The East course was a beast but had some great holes.  It wasn't a terribly hard walk but I was running on fumes the last few holes. The fairways were a lot skinnier than the West and the rough was high and thick. Hazards are numerous, with many not viewable from the tee box and fairways. The caddies did a great job with this and had us play away from them or lay up to a good wedge yardage. The greens were running at 10.5 and were very firm. I saw quite a few pretty good shots release and roll off the back and into hazards.

The driving range is equipped with Top Tracer and the attendants were very helpful with setting this up on your smart phone. You could choose from Callaway or Titleist balls. The first day we were were hitting off mats as they had a big rainstorm the day before. The second day we were on the grass.

The Par 3 course was fun. Holes were any where from 45 yards to 100. The tee boxes were mats. We saw a guy playing with his two young boys Ace a hole. That was pretty cool to watch.

Overall impression: Five Stars! The hospitality was first class. Every employee at every level was professional, very polite, and seemed genuinely happy you were there.

I only had a few complaints. The DFW area can be very hot and muggy. On the East course, water was only available on four holes and there was a concession stand/bar at the turn.  For a walking only course this can be a bit of a problem when it's 90 degrees and humid. There were also no trash cans. We were told to leave our water bottles laying on the edges of the tee boxes but I ended up seeing cups and cans all over the course. I'm shocked that such a high cost facility is taking this approach so I'm sure it's just an oversight and will be corrected soon.

A number of courses seem to be eschewing trash cans lately because they want that minimalist look with no external features. Same ones that are getting rid of benches etc.

But guess what - people are going to have trash! Crazy for a walking only course.

If you want it to be hidden, then you should put in the underground trash cans.

Also, glad to get some more perspectives on the West and now East course.

I think they are only going walking only until mid June to let the course recover from the tournamnet.  Could not see anyone walking that course with zero shade in July and August.

We were told "minimalist" as the reason for not having ball washers out on the holes.  Not so sure it isn't about cost, frankly.  Throw that word out there and it covers nearly anything whether it makes sense or not.

minimalist means we don't need water features and all those bells and whistles.  The more basic stuff.... c'mon.

Eh. Ball washers are stupid. Haven’t used one in 20 years. A little spit and a towel are all you need.

But water access, trash, and benches are crucial
