Miura MC502...Thoughts?

Well, it's here.  I know I've been waiting to see what this 501 successor would look like for quite some time and it certainly doesn't disappoint cosmetically.  Nice and clean, familiar lines, similar enough to the 501 to not put folks off.

 

Happy to see they've listened to the public and reduced the offset a bit.  More interesting to me is the fact they rounded the toe a little.  I know their angular lines could be a bit polarizing, but this seems to just be a 'play to the masses' move.

 

They also claim to be slightly more forgiving than the 501's, which if true, would put them very close to the 201's in playability.  

 

Hard not to want to try immediately.

The original 501’s were overhyped and these look way worse😬😬😬 3k+ for full build when Giken sells same clubs for half cost…

I have the 501 and love them except for the offset. I would prefer less but in all reality, the offset is not huge like a GI club. It's very similar to my old MP 54. 

 

My initial reaction is that besides the difference in offset, I prefer the shape of the 501. I don't love the more rounded toe of the 502. That would likely change pretty quickly though once I see them in person.

Looked for pics of 501 to see what people are talking about regarding toe... Sorry but 501 looks more round 🤷‍♂️

I agree...I think they look damn good too.  I do love the back (cavity) of the 501, but the whole package of the 502 works for me.  After starring at pics for a while longer, put it together that the back is sort of the reverse of the 201 (weighting).  Has me even more interested to try them back to back, given the increased forgiveness claims.

 

As far as the toe goes, it's really that slightly pointier high-toe area that has been softened.

It’s the 501 with less offset which is magnificent as I love the 501 I think it’s a brilliant iron but the offset does look slightly odd to my eye.

After gaming 501s last year, I thought the 502 would be the answer.  They're beauties, but as a mid handicapper, there are just more forgiving distance options out there.  That being said, mine are up for sale if interested...DM me.

I got a set of these almost immediately after release and they're absolutely incredible. I also have the TC201, and I must say that these are significantly closer to a blade than the 201, and they do require that you strike the ball very well.

 

I play my set with a steelfiber i110 Stiff, handicap 4 currently. Would recommend them if you basically want the look and feel of a blade with just a little more forgiveness than a full on blade
