I know it's Winter but let's talk Summer base layers for cooling and UV protection

Hi,

 

I've never considered wearing UV protection base layers before, as I used to be pretty heavy and couldn't imagine wearing another layer in the heat. Slimmed down quite a bit and now want more UV protection in the Seattle summers. What base layers do you all wear in the summer (under a polo)? Do you feel it heats you up more or do some actually work to cool you down?

I'd also like to hear if people just wear the UV sleeves and how those feel.

I have two pair of Aegend sleeves.   I was skeptical at first about wearing anything but my fear of skin cancer overcame the worry of being too warm.   They have silicone beads on the elastic to ensure they don't slide down your arm.  I'm a firm believer in wearing sleeves during the summer now.   They actually seem to have a cooling effect and if it ever gets too hot, water on the sleeves will cool you down quickly.   They don't affect your swing.  

 

I'm sure there are other options but skin cancer is expensive compared to wearing some sort of sun protection.

I have thought UV long sleeve base layers, but, I have a pair of Nike Sun Sleeves, which, do the job. There are some good deals on UV Sleeves, right now, since, it is out of season.

I'm in Florida, I always wear cooling/UV sleeves when I play. I walk 90% of the time. 

 

I got used to wearing the sleeves when I was living in Arizona training for triathlons.  You best be wearing cooling sleeves in AZ when you are cycling and running mid day for 6 to 8 hours.  

 

They definitely help cooling and sun protection.

Good info. My Dad had a bad heart, bad hearing, and has a few cases of skin cancer. I've already got the first 2, so I'm pretty confident I'm susceptible to skin cancer and better take caution.

These are cheap and are like wearing an air conditioned shirt (at least for me).  I wear one under my polo golf shirt.  They cool so well that I can't wear them when it's below about 60 degrees because I'll get cold.
 

DEVOPS 3 Pack Men's Athletic Long Sleeve Compression Shirts on the amazon.  Order a size up.  They run pretty small, even with compression.

FYI I'm finding that most of the UnderArmor summer base layers don't have any UV rating. LOL.

Bought sleeves this year. (3 pack on Amazon for $20ish)

 

Work great for me. They've got enough 'stick' to stay up on my arms, and they're small enough to just live in my golf bag.

 

Only small problem is I have to take my golf watch off to put the sleeves on. Not that it's a problem, I'm just lazy.

 

Wanted to try the style of connected sleeves (that look like the top part of a shirt) but never got around to ordering them.  Popular on the LPGA tour.

I ordered a pair of Sleeves from SPArms. Also ordered 2 long sleeve UPF base shirts. The sleeves should be good, but some of my shirts may not be UV rated so the full base (or the under shawl) take care of that. I'll have them by next week and will report on fit. Usage report will have to wait till June lol.

j/k, if we are lucky in the PNW, you may get to use them sooner, if you go some where it is warm and sunny.

I would recommend STORYi sleeves, very comfortable (no seam).

Been loving my Sparms shirts and sleeves. If I did it over, I'd go with the shirts and shawls. The sleeves are fine, but I'd rather have the full UV protection on my back.

Promo code SUMMER but it applied automatically. This is for https://sparmsamerica.com/ not https://us.sparms.com/ . Both are official but even after asking the company, they couldn't really explain why there are 2 sites.
