I do not think in going from a 93g steel to an 80-85g graphite will feel much different, except for the dampening you will get from graphite.  I recently went from 130g steel to 70g graphite.  Much less strain and fatigue by the end of the round.  Took a couple weeks to get used to the feel of the club at the top of the backswing.

Got fitted at Golf Galaxy last night and the 65g Tensei shaft with Rogue's worked best for me. It just loads right at the top of my swing. Felt great.

Thanks. Had a fitting last night at Golf Galaxy and the Callaway Rogue ST Max irons with Tensei Blue 60 & 65g shafts were the best fit. Where can you get the PXG irons for that price? Also, what about the Mavrik's and Mizuno JPX 923 Hot Metal irons? What do you think of those sets?

I don’t know much about the Mavriks.  I’m a big fan of pretty much any Mizuno iron though.  I currently have a set of pro 225’s that Im loving.  If you ended up going Mizuno I would look at the jpx 923 mot metal pro as well as the hot metal.  Both have strong lofts and forgiveness but in a good looking package.  The PXG clubs can be bought directly off of their website.  They always have some sort of sale going on.  The 0211’s are $119 I think, but it looks like it drops to $99 if you buy 5 or more irons.  They are very strong lofted so at your speed you probably could start the set at 6 iron and be fine.  I’m not especially fast either and the carry  distances start to bunch as the lofts get lower.  At a little over 100 driver SS I don’t carry a 4 iron as a hybrid just suits my speed so much better.    My buddy has the 0211’s and is very happy with them. They are crazy long, but he still can hit them plenty high. The commercials are awful, imho, but at the quality and price they are delivering I can get past that.  Even the 0311 gen 5’s are like $199 a club.

you definitely can’t go wrong with Mizuno or Callaway, but you may end up paying almost double.  If I were you and thinking Callaway I would look at the Apex line, possibly a combo of the DCB and Apex’s.  If you can stand used clubs Callaway preowned might be worth a look.

just wondering how your elbow is progressing and if you've made a decision on shafts. i to am having issues with my arm...had an injection last week and received a script for the arthoritis which has helped a lot. i'll start some physical therapy this week and anxious to see how it goes. i have looked at the mmt 70 in a regular flex and strongly thinking of going with this shaft. my swing speed is very close to yours so any input would be helpful in making a decision.

I  ended up getting fitted and the first night I was set on the Callaway Rogue after numerous club head and shaft combinations. The second night I went and asked to try the Mavrik after noticing the cost was a few hundred less; wasn't necessarily thinking I'd like it but was curious. I ended up going with the Mavriks with a 65g shaft. I strongly recommend trying different weighted shafts. I had thought a 75g or 80g shaft would be best for me but was mistaken. I am hitting the Mavriks at least one club longer than in my prime and 2 clubs longer than recently with my AP3 Titleist irons. The effect on the elbow with graphite is noticeable. Before, I'd notice a decrease in distance the more balls I'd hit. Now I don't and there is less discomfort. The club head weight of the AP3's were considerably heavier than the Mavriks. The loft on the Mavriks are juiced too, making it esier to hit the ball longer.

I recommend using a Theraband Flex Bar but the reverse Tyler twist didn't work for me. I use it in another way - just doing reverse forearm curls and regular forearm curls, plus I use a 5 lb dumbbell to do the same exercises. This has worked pretty well but it's a gradual improvement.

I have been dealing with golfer's elbow for about 3 years.  I started seeing an orthopedist (luckily he is a golfer as well) last fall.  He told me to switch to graphite, which I did.  Doing everything to avoid surgery.  I went from the Tour Elevates X100 (originals so approx 118 grams) to i95 Steelfibers.  I have only played a few times with the new irons, but can already tell a difference.  A lot less effort to swing and so much less vibration.  Wish I did it years ago.  It hasn't fixed my problem, but I am to about 80% healed.  Hoping to be 100% by late March early April.  Good luck.
