Obsidian Graphite Iron Shafts?

I remember when Takomo came out wondering if they were legit or a scam. This shows they are pushing to be a bigger player by going down the shaft manufacturing road. That’s a gutsy move but with quality products it would build reputation

Takamo making or branding their own graphite iron shafts is definitely risky. Especially if you can't be fit into it or even test it out. Beyond that from a business standpoint its a totally different manufacturing / tech field then iron heads. They have got to be partnering with one of the shaft guys for this. Absolutely have to.

I just ordered a custom set of 101T 4-PW with Obsidian 115 Stiff shafts.  I played a round 2 weeks ago and my golf buddy had this exact setup and was recently asked to review.  My background is a fluctuate between a low plus to a low single digit index with driving being my Achilles heel.  I have been using the Mizuno MP 20MP Irons 5-Pw with DG S400 TI for past 4 seasons.  I've been suffering with elbow pain all year (combo of cutting a lot of heavy wood, golf, etc).

I hit one shot and my buddy started laughing.  I played his irons for the last 16 holes of the round.  These irons are very forgiving, but more importantly very consistent.  I never got any flies like my players distance irons.  The shafts mixed perfectly with the heads.  I was getting high flying shots that never ballooned or spun up with the wind.  I could flight these irons down, hit knock down shots, etc.  I could hit a little draw with these as well.  This shaft does prefer a smoother swing rather than a reckless swing hard at it.  I noticed they held their line very well without excessive draw.  The only thing I noticed is they were very difficult to hit a cut with it.  I did pick up almost a club of distance even though the lofts are standard.   I hit almost every green the last 16 holes.  I highly, highly recommend them.  I will add the wedges spun considerably more than my vokeys on full, partial, and knock down shots.  They have more of a rounded sole sole can't be steep as they can dig but they flew highly and further as well.  These came with the KBS Wedge shafts.  I can't wait to receive all these sticks.  I'm blown away they can produce a full set and wedges with custom iron shafts for 1K.  Please feel free to ask any questions you have.  Cheers!

What do you feel with the shafts…? The Obsidian 115 is a good step lighter than your S400. there will be differences for sure. Are they true to flex? Somewhere I read they are a bit whipping? But as a smooth swinger this should not be a bigger problem.

I'm not a smooth swinger and they are stable for me unless I try to overswing.  I was hitting the 9 iron 155 yards and hit the 4 iron 220.  They are not whippy at all.

Hey @odshot68,

Just  curious how are you getting along with your new Takomo irons so far?

I'm considering ordering this exact set up. How is the offset visually on them?

Thanks
