Anyone have information on the reopening, including timing and rates?  Seems there have been some preview rounds by friends and family like Brad Faxon in recent weeks.  Place looks awesome.  Could be a real public gem for the region.

I had the opportunity to play it last week and the place is awesome  - especially the back 9!  It is already in great shape and they are waiting the the clubhouse to be done. I heard they are opening around the end of April and it’s going to be $80 a round and highly encouraged to take a caddie. There are no cart paths on the course and I swear the guy I played it with said it will be walking only but don’t quote me on it.

Lots of talk about pricing but i have only heard is rumors. $80 in season would be very surprising to me. I have heard that they might do a Torrey Pines type pricing where it could be $80 for West Palm Beach residents and higher for anyone else. Again, all rumors. At $80 it would be the cheapest public golf around.

Yes - sorry I forgot to say that.  $80 for WBP residents is what he said.  Regardless, it will be very popular and worth it when it opens!  The little 9 hole short course looked very cool as well! I will post a couple pictures - if I can figure out how to do it

I’m supposed to get out there during this soft launch. They have carts and walking available. They are also contemplating a caddie program through the adjacent high school with the idea to get the Evans Scholarship program in play. They have a bunch of influential golf world executives on the Board and are trying to balance opportunity, access, and growing the game. WPB residents do get a better deal, but I suppose that seasonal rates will be pricey and in-line with the market and they have a hotel coming online.

Gil Hanse was on a recent podcast talking about how he designed a playable but challenging course. There is no water so finding your ball and having good pace of play shouldn’t be an issue. I’ve driven by and it looks like it’s going to be a great place to play.

No water on a Florida course sounds like a dream.  Should be awesome

I've been lucky enough to see the progress along the way as I've been playing this track for almost a year now.

Place is absolutely gorgeous. The little par three course is a blast to play, and kind of tough to be honest.

FL resident rate is currently 140 but they will be having a WPB local rate as well.  This will be a gem of a place, especially for junior golfers.

Opens April 17. Looks fantastic.

Florida residents start at 130. I heard they were looking into a county rate as well. I just moved north out of PBC, so I doubt I will be paying 130 to walk when the temps get over 90 this month.

Not sure about a county rate. Right now it is $70 for West Palm Beach Residents, $130 for Florida Residents, and $180 for Out of State. The course is great, easily worth the $130 when comparing it to other options around. Putting course, driving range, short game area, 9 hole part three, clubhouse/restaurant, and the 18 hole course are all top tier. This is easily one of the best municipal courses in the country.

I am supposed to get out there soon because I weighed in on providing some community outreach for youth access with one of the principal developers. I have heard that it is incredible experience.

Agree with you 100%.  It’s half price of Torrey Pines though and probably a better course.   Just a view from the west coast…

Understood. There are a lot of factors at play.

One is, Tiger and his friends play there once a year - that lends considerable cachet to the pricing formula and basically stamps it as a superior golf course and a "must play" for many visitors. Highly unlikely that'll ever happen at WPB Muni.

But munis are operated by the gubmint. The local tax base (already) provides a lot of the funds to operate the course. Exorbitant (assuming that's what this is) pricing to use the facility can be viewed as the gubmint kinda sorta double-dipping.

Fortunately there are still some decent courses around that are reasonably priced around here, especially during the Summer months. But if inflation and the (C-19)golf boom keep going, might not be for long,,,,,,,,,, Dunno1.gif

I played the course yesterday and it’s a great course. It reminded me a lot of Streamsong Black, which given the architect is not a surprise. The course played fast and firm, and the greens are challenging but helped contribute to the strategy on each hole.

It seems the course is trying to be put automatically into the conversation with Bethpage and Torrey Pines with their pricing structure, but the difference is those course host majors and that will allow a premium. That said, I’ve played Torrey Pines (not Bethpage) and The Park is a way better course than Torrey. It’s a totally different style of golf, so perhaps that’s a large portion of it as I prefer the style of golf The Park offers more than what’s presented at Torrey.

While expensive, the fee structure is not out of line with other top tier public courses in the area. I expected lower fees during the Summer months, but that doesn’t seem to be part of the plan. Maybe that will change over time.

I played there forever ago. It cost something like $30 or $35. At that time they still had the tiny concrete pond on one of the holes they had installed in order to host PGAT events. Used to be a rule that courses had to have a water hazard to be considered for a tour event. At least that's what I was told.

You could usually get on as a single on weekends with maybe an hour wait on the list. I would ride 20 miles in the morning, play 18 mid-day, then finish off with a couple sets of tennis in the evening. Good times. Loved living in the area.
