High School Golf Facility

Recommended Posts

I'm a High School golf coach in Texas. We don't have a local course and have to travel every day that we want to practice. I'm looking to build an indoor golf facility with 2 simulators and possibly a putting green. Does anyone have recommendations on which simulators to use for indoor practices as well as cost efficient mats/nets/screens? Also does anyone have an idea of how much room would be needed to house such a large setup. This is a big ticket item for our school so I'm going to try to save money anywhere I can. I'm really just looking for a starting point to be able to take to our administration. Any and all help is appreciated. Thank you.

Either a ceiling mounted system or a radar system behind could work. Read up on those things that interfere with something like a Mevo + (metal some electronics). Impact screens and projector, maybe a few gaming laptops, good hitting mats and a program with a decent range and some courses. If you have some balance on lefties and righties you could look at a camera system like Skytrak or more expensive GC3.

just an fyi my experience is setting up a garage sim that occupies about 16 x 16 feet, has a retractable screen and a GC3 (after using Skytrak for 2 years)

High school coach in northern Ohio here.  Two years ago we went to our booster club and asked for a simulator set up.

They bought us a Mevo plus along with a floor projector, hitting screen and a  laptop to run it on.  It works great.  We went through a vendor and got the whole set up for less than 10K.  We also purchased a practice net which we have kids hit almost golf balls into while doing drills.  I built a 9x15 putting green myself and purchased cups from Amazon.   If you would like to know the vendor shoot me a PM.  I know there are rules for posting stuff like that.

During the winter we hold practices after school a couple of days a week and have kids sign up for time slots so it is not too crowded.  We will find out in a couple of years if our time with the younger kids pays off when they get to HS.

You can do this much cheaper than $10k.

Mevo+ and iPads is your best option for price and included software. You can also use relatively cheap ($150-200) 1080p projectors from Amazon if your space can dim the lights. Expensive projectors are only necessary in bright rooms or if you are running 4k with a gaming computer (not needed).

You can buy heavy duty tarps (saw dust mesh) for relatively cheap that will work perfectly fine for an impact screen. They can be hung loosely with netting behind to help catch the impact and should last a very long time.

For mats I recommend the Wittek Quattro. It feels great, is safe on the joints, provides helpful feedback on fat shots and will last forever. It's also only $400/mat.

The hardest part of your setup will be building out the cages and/or hanging netting with wires.

What turf did you use for your putting green?

So I don't know how relevant this still is, but I'm in the process of doing ALMOST the exact same thing...only difference is I do not have a dedicated year-round space to keep it setup and even though I could keep it set up through the entire fall season, It is not in a secure area. When all done I will have been able to create 2 hitting bays, 1 with full sim capability, and a practice putting area all that can be setup/stored in about 15 min or less by 2 people, for under $12k

What I'm using:

2 Spornia SPG-8XL nets ($1K)

2 Fiberbuillt Grass Series practice stations ($1k)

2 Uneekor Eye Mini launch Monitors (only 1 so far due to funds raised, but the 2nd should be aquired by xmas)...($6.5k)

2 Ipads/Stands - to run view driving range software ($800)

1 65" 4K tv with rolling stand/laptop shelf ($1K)

1 MSI gaming laptop with a RTX4070 gpu  ($1.5k)

1 Wellputt 13' practice putting mat ($200)

One suggestion, email the manufacturers of the launch monitors directly, I sent emails to all the big manufacturers stating my role, school, and goals, along with a little bit of begging, and found ALL very receptive to improved pricing (some VERY substantially so). I chose to go with the eye mini because of the ball optix and ability to easily add down the line and face on swing camera's for player improvement and the fact I wanted players to practice with the balls they will use on course and not have to keep resupplying RCT balls.
