Got up early for a Saturday to beat the heat.  So after 2 sessions of chipping and putting, I decided to work full shots through the bag.  Everything was solid and while physically hitting balls for 75 minutes no pain.  After I was done and showered there was some soreness.  I am planning on playing 2 days next week.  I will be smart and take a cart, which I’m not a fan, but it’s a minor trade off to get back to playing after almost 6 weeks.

Great news! I know the feeling, so I’m sure you’re stoked about getting back out.

Ok let's hear them. What temperature is it this afternoon where you are?

I like 8's so this is dandy for me.   Yikes it's warm.    But on 37% humidity.

... Cloudy, 104* today with a 61* dew point so Monsoon Season is here. Only 27% humidity but it feels dank and heavy which is strange for the desert. Fingers crossed for rain!

Man, USPS shipments have been cursed for me lately and all seem to be golf related. Had some replacement poles for my net that got stuck at a warehouse in Dallas. Spornia had to intervene to get them delivered. Ordered a pair of sunglasses a week ago. Went to check the order to see where they were. Shipped on 6/18 from Boca Raton. In Dallas on 6/20. In New Orleans on 6/21. Still there today. Good grief.

When I left the course just before noon it was 94*.  It’s cooled off to 84* as I make this post.  Tomorrow should be the end of this particular heat wave.

I just spied this at the bag drop. You all have a laminated sheet with your yardages attached to your golf bag don't you? 😄

Mr. C is one of the longest hitters in the club.

That is kind of sad. Though I am guessing he loves golf for the fun of it and the camaraderie. I played golf last May with an oldster... he didn't use a chart.  He had 14 clubs in his bag and they all went 100 yards or less.

Love it!  And that walking business is probably adding years to their life. Your course has some serious elevation in places, yes?

Yes sir 6 holes have steep fairways to climb. They use battery powered push carts.

... Well none of my bets will pay off on the LPGA again this week. I'd take a break but that's when my girls all place in the top 10 so I'll just keep betting my $5 on Korda, Thitikul, Yin and Tavatanikit and hope the tide turns. That said I would 🥰 to see Amy Yang, who has one of my favorite all time golf swings win her first Major.

I'm SOOO happy that I got home from the tournament in time to see Amy Yang finish.  Congratulations, Amy!  It was awesome seeing so many of her SK peers shower her with champagne afterwards.

As for the 2-man best ball tournament in which I played, it was on a course that I hadn't seen in maybe 10-15 years.  Nothing spectacular as it likely would be considered almost a muni.  I didn't even get to use either of my New Level wedges much, certainly not any full shots with either.  I did get to use the Autoflex shaft which was the "mystery" item that did not arrive in time for the Mesquite trip.  I used it with a spare Paradym (regular, not the X or TD) 10.5* head and I will say that I was taken aback at how well I hit it.  I had a few pre-round swings on their range which I didn't put a lot of stock in, but I'm pretty sure it was carrying further on the course than I'd been seeing with the AI Smoke TD w/ Ventus TR Blue.  I used it 5 times and 4 were dead straight down the right side of the fairway, with the 5th being a smothered snap-hook.  If anything, I got into lots more trouble when I tried to be conservative and hit either 5W or 5h on the short par-4's.  Go figure.

Personally, I never play safe off the tee.  I don’t feel like I can give up the distance and I would rather risk the fairway bunker for a shorter approach.  Don’t know why, but I feel pretty good with my driver.

I didn’t play after all the prior golf today and tried to watch the KPMG.  The winner was just putting the boots to everyone so there wasn’t much drama, and therefore, much interest.  They do hit the ball much straighter than the men, probably a product of slower swing speeds.

... Right there with you. Driver is the most forgiving club in the bag so why not use it whenever we can? There are 3 dogleg holes on my winter course and 3 holes dogleg holes on my summer course where I don't hit driver because it will go through the fairway. If I'm gonna lay up I'm gonna lay up so I hit my 5 iron good for about 190 and leaves me with a short iron/wedge to the green. If I have any wind at my back I will hit driver on 2 of those holes, both a 230yd carry over water.

For me I can hit a 4 wood, or hybrid, just as crooked as a driver so then I am in trouble but 20 yards further back.

And I guess I should amend my statement.  If there is a lost ball (water crossing the fairway) or deep rough in my landing area (on a well hit ball) then I will lay up, but that’s the only time.

... 👍 I think for me that is the most disappointing shot in golf. "Playing smart" and hitting an errant shot with a hybrid or fairway wood. Exactly why I hit my 5 iron or stick with driver.

touch talks the women's professional game.

As most of you know I don't watch much LPGA golf but when it's a Major I will pay some attention. I watched the last two hours of today's final round from DMM's home state.

My takes.

I love that golf course, it is beautiful. Tree lined, elevation changes, and rich deep green colors. What a lovely tight track.

From Golf magazine . com

There’s something spiritual about the setting. It’s the trees, it’s the shadows, it’s the calm.

“It’s just pretty different from anything we play,” World No. 1 Nelly Korda said. “It’s just a beautiful walk.”

“It’s almost like an oasis of its own here,” added Lydia Ko. “I’ve enjoyed it. It’s been really peaceful.”

“It’s beautiful. The trees are just so impressive. It’s kind of magical,” said club pro Stephanie Connelly-Eiswerth, similarly wowed.

In her practice rounds, Brooke Henderson she didn’t even feel like she was on a golf course.

“You just feel like you’re in amongst nature. It’s just a great feeling,” she said. “I love just kind of looking around and breathing deep and feeling that fresh air. It’s an incredible feeling.”

Studies have demonstrated the benefits of being in nature. Reduced stress. Lowered blood pressure. Improved physical and mental well-being. Based on their descriptions, that checks out.

I saw that the two LPGA players that I pull for made the cut and received decent checks.....Brook Henderson and Gabi Ruffles. Go Gabi ! You have done really well in some of the Majors during your rookie year. You have what it takes to play out there Miss Aussie lady Trojan.  Props!

I learned that Amy Yang has been on the LPGA Tour for 17 seasons and this was her first Major. How cool is that? Dare I say that Amy has a tempo very similar to the Queen of Tempo in the women's game Inbee Park? I think so.

Amy has a fierce short game too. She carried herself with such poise and class during the interviews afterwards. Congratulations Amy on winning this years Women's PGA.  You looked just smashing today in your red shirt and white bucket hat.

The seasoned service professional that I am got a bit concerned when I saw something during the telecast that was taking place next to the 18th green as the tournament was finishing. A bunch of the South Korean players were standing by with a bottle of uncaged champagne in each of their hands. I saw one gal tell the others to keep the bottles pointed away from people as they are dangerous once the cage has been removed. I have seen some nasty mishaps with rookies handling uncaged bottles of champagne. Those things are not to be taken lightly when handling them with the cage off. Thankfully none of the lady golfers had an accident holding a bottle. The fellow SK players ended up doing a fine soaking of Amy on the 18th green. It was a fun celebration.

I had to stay tuned after the tournament concluded to watch the wrap up show with Kira Dixon. I have been a fan of Kira's for many years and think she just might be the cutest lady sports reporter out there and she isn't even an olive skinned brunette. 😀

I enjoyed my time watching some of the action from Sahalee CC. this evening.

Them girls swing smooth.

I would like to hear your rational for the first sentence.  I think driver is the most non forgiving club.  I know for me it is.  Some of the guys I play with, maybe it is a forgiving club.  On a wide open course I could maybe agree.  If you have deep rough, water, a lot of trees, heavy fescue or desert, I think risk reward is higher.
