Can someone help identify these clubs?

Recommended Posts

Very similar shape and casting to the Baffler Blade 1989 and the TRD 1990.  Cobra's pro-line stuff was green grass stores only back then, so I'm going to guess they were the storeline model sold during that time frame.

Believe this a lower end store line iron set.  The blue paint fill back in the day would typically be a womens set.  Are you sure they are stiff flex mens clubs?   I’d measure the 5 iron against a modern 5 iron to get an Idea.    This is a ladies baffler set .  Likely can’t find them because they were not popular - not because they are rare/valuable.

I agree, I’m going to keep looking for the exact model however just to try and date/value them

Yeah they are definitely stiff flex mens clubs which just confuses me because as you said the only similar looking clubs are ladies

It has to be from that same era.  Just too many other clues as well.  About 1985 or so, they started putting the snake on the face of clubs.  Also, many irons back then were copying the Ping Eye 2 look of rounded hosel and no ferrule.  Plus the font style on the club is period correct for that time.  I would be shocked if they weren't made from 1985 to 1992.

I’m just surprised that the exact model can’t be found, do you think it would be worth much of anything or is that just optimistic thinking?

I agree that they won't have much value simply because they were a storeline club rather than a proline offering. So there just won't be much demand for that model now.   Or they could be a model that was only offered overseas.  Cobra was an Australian company in its beginning.  This may have been a model that they only made for Australia or in Asia.

Sorry to say there's lots of RARE! UNFINDABLE! iron sets out there that aren't worth much more than scrap value, simply because nobody wants them. If your clubs were pro line they'd be documented somewhere, so these were probably sporting goods store clubs as others have mentioned (not good for value) and they're almost definitely ladies clubs (usually not good for value).

I had a set of Wilson Exacta irons that weren't documented anywhere on the web. Tried my best to sell them and eventually got like 50 Canadian for them.

Not sure what to say…..take the positive route. If somehow in H E double hockey sticks this is a successful sale it could be the genesis to an antique golf club revival that will get us all paid.

On the downside then I’d never be able to afford a hickory set ever. Could you imagine how valuable they would be!

gotta love this line in that auction listing -

'Update: I have been told that these clubs could be commercially unavailable prototypes that were given to pros for testing. Can’t confirm anything however as they just don’t exist.'

Pretty sure not too long ago on the Bay I saw an unhit set of Norman Grinds with beastly shaft’s if I remember right asking $1500 or so. Looked like smaller thinner JNP’s. I’m guessing they’re still waiting for the world’s biggest Norman fan.

From what I've heard, that'd be Greg himself.
