I’m intrigued by these bags as I have a SKB hard case now. I like the protection of the hard case but it’s hard to fit my shoes in it. Is there any truth to the claim that the airlines aren’t liable for any damage caused to clubs in a soft case like the club glove?

Different airlines have different policies, but generally speaking most would not assume responsibility for damage in a soft case.

I agree, and in some cases they will even make you sign the back of the bag tag acknowledging this (I think Delta or Jetblue made me do this recently).

But the nice thing about some more recent clubs is that you can take the heads of the driver and (sometimes) FW woods, which I think greatly reduces the chance of a problem.  I typically take my wood heads off, stuff them in their headcovers, and then put them in the bag pockets or take them in my carry on if I have room.

Also, the "stiff arm" things that is included with some of the travel bags probably helps a lot to prevent damage.

Went on a golf trip recently and it was definitely nice to be able to take off the driver head just in case.  I definitely recommend a stiff arm and I have seen where people put 2 stiff arms for even more protection.  Also wrapping a couple of golf towels around the clubs help as well.  I dont have a club glove, I have a Burton that I bought on sale for super cheap and it did a great job, though if anything were to happen to it, I'd definitely go club glove next time.

I have an SKB case and a couple Club Glove bags. Both products and companies are top notch. I use the case for international travel and a bag for domestic. This is based on two main factors that I've experienced.

The case is too big for many rental cars, so the Club Glove bag gets used when I'm renting a smaller vehicle in the states. Removing club heads, using a stiff arm, and padding the bag helps immensely. But Club Glove bags are the best you can get.

My clubs have been re-routed twice when traveling to the Caribbean. I didn't get them until 3-5 days later into the vacation. The airlines will typically pay for rentals. But this means your clubs are traveling somewhere else, sitting for a while, and getting mishandled and tossed around more. An SKB case provides much more protection is this situation. No rental car is involved so hotel transfers done in a larger vehicle are easy with a case.

Ran into the case issue when meeting friends in SC, worked fine when being picked up by my  buddy in his SUV at airport, but when traveling in his friends Accord, not so much.  We had to wedge it in through the door and rest on top of backrest/backseat and shoulder portion of front two seats....not too practical.  They affectionately named it the missile launcher🙃
