Alta CB vs. Tensei Orange AV (Ping Drivers)

Hey all, I recently went for a fitting and took my G425 with its stock shaft. Shaft was Alta CB 55g Regular. I ended up getting fit into Tensei Orange AV 55g (65g also worked) and the fitter told me its "more stable". I could feel better contact and better impact, but just curious if anyone has any information or background on the differences between these two shafts. I know they are both counterbalanced - Ping does it with a weight plug, not sure what the Tensei does.

That's a good fitting if you liked the Alta. The Tensei is essentially the same shaft but more stable. Why? Because its expensive and expensive shafts are wrapped with extra layers of carbon in a zig zag pattern that keep the club head from twisting at impact.

Interesting. I actually picked up the Tensei stock shaft secondhand (the one I needed) for $50 and I'll get a bit deeper once I get it in hand.

I use the Tensei orange 55 regular and it is very solid. I’ve never gotten along with Ping’s Alta shafts. To me there is a world of difference. Although, I wouldn’t mind trying the 55 in stiff. My SS is 92-95 mph, but a quick transition.

This an older thread but I found the same with the G425 and G430.  The Alta shaft was a no go for me.  I usually am around 88-92 mph.

Carry the ball around 205-210 with rollout in the 230-240 range depending on conditions.

 

For the G425 10.5 I had it set to 11.5 and kinda self fit myself into the Tensei Orange AV Raw 55 Reg.  At the time I needed launch and my local shop Mgr said whenever someone needed launch in the Pings he put them into this shaft as he claimed it launched higher than the Alta.

 

When I went in for a fitting with Ping I hit this combo and he said he was going to have a hard time beating it.  I gamed it for 2 seasons but told him I wanted to upgrade to the G430 because I liked the sound and looks better. 

 

We landed on the HZRDUS Smoke Red RDX 50g 5.5 (Reg) in the G430 Max 10.5, weight middle, loft std.

We tried the Alta but my dispersion was poor with it.

I'm currently playing the HZRDUS smoke blue RDX 5.5 in my TEE C721 driver and like it, but the Red is on my short list of shafts I would like to try, I think it would be a good match for me as well.
