Ping PLD Answer vs Scotty Newport

What's everyone's opinions on the Answer vs Newport? I'm a lefty and love the answer/newport shape so for me I love the new Ping PLD in black as its available in Lefty.

 

Would love to hear your thoughts on feel, look, preferences!

I rolled both extensively before taking the plunge and buying the PLD Anser D…

 

I liked the overall shape of the PLD much more. It may have been the black color, but I found the PLD to be more compact and the bumpers looked slightly more rounded.  The Scotty looked nice, but bigger over all.  The PLD shape was perfect to my eye. 

The feel is similar between the two, I slightly preferred the PLD, but not by much.
 

FWIW, I should say that I have several Scotty’s, and I’m a fan. But when I compare the two, I prefer the PLD. It surprised me.

 

In the end, I was going back and forth between the PLD Anser and the Anser D, and the Anser D won. I can honestly say, I’ll likely pick up a PLD Anser in the near future.

I think the above poster is 100% correct in every way.  Ping did a really great job with that line.

Ping PLD shape is better, I really love the look with it down by the ball. Scotty feels better to me..Ping just felt more firm/clicky compared to the last 2 Newport models. I'm still considering trying out the Anser D because I want a black putter. Having a really hard time deciding between buying one the Super Select Newport plus models and the Anser D.

That’s interesting, because the PLD’s have a deeper milling than the previous newports (probably more similar to the 2023 NP milling), so the PLD’s should be softer. Maybe the Newport had a heavier head-weight and grip, resulting in the “softer” feeling. Ping’s graphite shaft (in the black PLD Anser’s) could also feel different - i personally haven’t tested them

Interesting! I got fit for the PLD Answer last week and going to order it this week. 36 inches as I'm a taller guy also which felt way better. I prefer a bit of a click feel so that and the all black answer look is a huge selling point for me. Can't wait.

I can’t buy another Scotty until they eliminate the cavity holes. The black Pings are so clean and well designed.  I give them props.

Well since the Newport isn't available in LH then Anser it is.

Black vs. Silver, no sight line vs sight line, graphite shaft vs steel + adjustable weights. Both are good putters, but for me, I seem to prefer a steel shafted putter. 

 

To "replace" my Ping Redwood Anser with the Black Nickel finish - the glare was starting to get to me, since, I am starting to play more later in the day, I went with a Newport 2.

Picking a putter because of the shaft might just be the worst way to go about it. A putter shaft is $20. It can go into any model very easily. You can also order PLD putters with steel shafts...

For those of you that have rolled the PLD Anser and the PLD Anser 2, did you notice a huge difference in feel? I spent an hour in the shop on Friday, and I found the Anser 2 to feel incredible--super soft yet very responsive and "solid" at the same time. On the contrary, I could barely feel the Anser hitting the ball. It was like using a soggy 2x4. I hated it haha. I went into the store thinking there'd be no difference in feel between the Anser and Anser 2. I thought it would just be a question of looks, but I couldn't get over the differences in feel despite thinking the Anser looks a lot better/smoother.

 

As an aside, the Newport 2 looks better than anything else off the rack (in my opinion), but the feel just isn't there compared to the PLD Anser 2...YMMV. I guess we all have different tastes.

Yup. Originally got the Anser and found I hated it. Can't explain it really. Never felt like I was hitting a putt solid

 

I thought it was the graphite shaft, but I have no problem with the new Anser 2 Black with the graphite shaft
