Ireland Packing List (Outside of Golf Gear)

Recommended Posts

First time trip coming up at the end of the May.  Have made plenty of trips to Bandon so we are all pretty good on what to take for "who knows what weather you'll get golf", but it will be our first trip to Ireland.  So..  just curious for any tips about what else to pack for apres golf.  Bars, restaurants, few days of playing tourist, etc..   Clothes, shoes, etc..

All advice is very welcome.

Cheers!

We were there last spring and didn't pack anything out of the ordinary and we go lighter than most, I'd guess.  Got lucky on the weather, didn't need the waterproofs we had with us and only took one pair of golf shoes.  May could be a little rainy and cool, so I'd say just normal layering but a golf jacket that can double as a casual rain jacket is nice.  Vibe is pretty casual overall, IMO, especially in the pubs.  I had some nicer shoes, etc. along only because it coincided with our anniversary and we "dressed for dinner" so to speak, one night. We hiked and walked a fair bit so had appropriate shoes for that, but they also were pretty much our everyday shoes as well.  We spent the bulk of our time in a couple of vacation cottages (preferred for us) so we had laundry facilities available and that cuts way down on the number of outfit changes, whether golf or casual, quite a bit.

Going for the first time in June so I have a few questions thoughts.

Will there be short weather or is it long pants only?I have also heard good golf attire is a rain suit over thermals. I have been told you  need a power converter specific to what part of Ireland your going to.

My last thought is I thought of packing light and buying some clothes while there.

Weather can be hit or miss and it could be 50 and raining sideways or could be sunny and 75. If you prefer shorts you could bring a pair or two. The key is to bring layers because you might experience those temperature changes in one round. You do need type G plug adapters which you can get cheap online.

Yes, bring one pair of shorts. If it isn't warm, they also work well under rain bottoms. Often times trousers under rain bottoms is too hot.

Don't bring an umbrella. You can buy one there if needed. I do find days when a brellie is useful. It doesn't always blow hard!

Bring rain gloves. Macwets or something.

Of all the things I struggled to find in Scotland was Advil or Aleve. Not sure why, but I ended up buying Volteran cream. If you rely on NSAIDs to recover/prep for lots of golf, I’d pack more than you might need.

Ibuprofen (the drug) is Advil (brand name) and easily found in the UK. It's very popular.

Might be obvious, but make sure you have a few of the type G plug adapters. Some hot hands or cart mitts may be helpful too if you get a cold, rainy, windy day.
