Who uses a 7 hybrid, and why?

My “forgiving” or “game enjoyment” bag includes:

Driver

5w

7w

9w

5h,

6h

7h

8i, 9i, Pw, Aw

54* sand wedge, 58* lob wedge

Why - it’s stupid easy to hit, goes straight, high and lands soft.

My exact setup, except no 58 degree.  I carry a 54 bent weak, and can hit every shot I should be attempting with that club.  If the shot requires a 58, it's not a shot I should attempt!

Should have gone to the 9W and hybrids a long time ago.

Adaptive Golf.....look out for the one-armed man:

  Ping G425 Max Driver, 5W, 7W....+2"

  PXG 0211 hybrids, 25*, 28*, 31*….+2”

  Sub70 699 8i - SW….+4”

  Bobby Grace F-22 side saddle

I enjoy playing a 6 and 7 hybrid on many of the courses I play.  I can still hit a seven iron okay, and not so much with a six iron.  The hybrids make it easier and more enjoyable.  The only mistake I make is sometimes I try to "baby a shot" when I am in between clubs.  I often forget the back of the green is as good as the front (most of the time).

I recently experimented with a 6 hybrid (28 degrees loft) for two specific par 3 holes at my course with good and consistent results.  Which begs the question, is a 7 hybrid worthwhile?

What make 6-hybrid do you play?

70 yrs old, 85 mph driver. 9 hcp.

Driver, 2W, 4W, 7W , 11W, 30H,34H, 8,9,P,G,S,L irons.
The hybrids (and woods) are far easier to hit and elevate than irons. Distances more consistent, and more forgiving on mishits.
On a recent trip to Ireland given the expected wind I thought it would be smart to leave out the 34 and take the 7 iron, big mistake.  I wish I’d taken it.   I can knock down a hybrid as well or even better than an iron.   Gone are the days when I could effectively work an iron high, low, left and right.

Despite the naysayers in the “if score was number 1 priority” thread, I’m still trying to shoot the lowest score I can and hybrids serve me well to meet that objective.

Which models/manufacturers do you play?

A while back I had a Cobra Baffler DWS in a 32* that I tried to like, but I just couldn't dial it in. When I hit it solid, it was a beautiful ball flight; awesome.  But sadly, when I didn't, it wasn't.  Much more likely to be my crappy swing than it was the club's fault.  I love the idea about hitting those high loft hybrids and I will keep experimenting.

Edit: oh yeah, I forgot to say why.  The reason I was playing around with this type of club is because I wanted to see how easy it was to hit a high, soft-landing, ball.  Also, I tend to suck at golf and wanted to hit something shank-proof for when my iron game goes south.

Big Bertha 7H from 2015 or ‘16 here. Lofted up from 32 to 34 degrees.

I really like hybrids and this is just stupid easy to use. Pretty long too and this was a year or two before jailbreak was around. Looks like a fat pitching wedge but goes forever.

Also have the matching 4 hybrid that I use a lot of tight tee boxes.  Point and shoot.

When I got back into golf last year as an adult, I was carrying hybrids and had less club speed. Lately ive learned to love long irons. I had a 6h Nike sling shot and 5h, I still own the 5. I'd love to try a 7h, I see a Nike model on ebay some.

A little late to the party, but there was a guy on here about 6 months ago who went with hybrids all the way down to his gap wedge. He also carried 4 drivers in his bag, one of which was modified to have like 30 degrees of loft and fitted with a wedge length shaft. Seemed confident he knew what worked for him.

Im a dork (im work in IT lol) and part of the fun of pairing with strangers is seeing what they play. Its never been a better time in golf for used or new clubs, the sky / your wallet is the limit.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
