Why Taylormade Spider EX putter not that popular among us?

Just curious, as personally I am using a Spider X, and was loving it since the day I tried at the store. Fast forward till recently, as newer models of Spider putter came rolling out (GTX now), older models are up on sale. Saw many of the EX model in display and decided to just give it a try. Amazingly I felt it is way more stable and heavier than the X, feeling wise it is great if not better. Just wonder how these EX putter performs for you guys and why it is not as popular as other mullet putter?

This mullet putter was more party in the back than business in the front. The inserts on these were pretty hot and many people had speed control issues with them, seems to be fixed recently with the last 2 versions.

It's a really good putter but I think people are fatigued with spider revisions and the minimal improvement.

Agree with this. The X was super popular (both with amateurs and tour players), and since the EX wasn't all that different aside from being slightly larger no one really thought it was worth switching to. I also don't ever really remember TM marketing the EX.

FWIW I have an EX and love mine. I prefer it to the X and GTX models.

That basically no one on tour gamed one was a factor.

I also bet that not many people understand that the ex was basically supposed to be TM's response to moving CoG forward while keeping moi up.

It was too chunky. The footprint wasn’t that huge but it was so thick. The height felt too high compared to the X.

It also never caught on because everyone was so happy with the X. The new GTX is actually a great spider but I don’t see it catching on unless some pro puts it in play over the X.

I think this is the take. In my neck of the woods I see a ton of spiders being gamed, all types of different models. Not as many true golf sickos like me where I'm from though

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
