Crosswater

Hey everyone l! I hope all of you golf addicts are doing well this morning. 
 

I have 400 dollar Alaska airlines credit from a previous trip that was cancelled and need to use it before 12/12/23.  Original thought was f*** it I am gonna do a weekend Bandon trip. And they are quite literally booked solid on lodging for every weekend from 11/1 to Xmas. Not exaggerating. So there goes that.

 

Than after some thinking, this is hard for me, /s I thought well what about Crosswater.  
 

They seem To have some nice stay and play packages which they advertise start at 99 and go up to 169 per night, per person double occupancy, unlimited golf and 1 round on Crosswater each day. Sounds like a good deal. 
 

What are some thoughts on Crosswater? The other courses? Resort as a whole ie lodging, food etc.

 

Would target late sept early oct to be sure Crosswater is still open.

That Sunriver stay-and-play deal is borderline bait and switch on the pricing.  Check their reservations page for that deal and you'll see that the cheapest night in September is nearly $800 per night, and that doesn't include the 17.5% 'resort fee'.  Doesn't get below $400 until late October, and at that point the weather's getting sketchy.

 

I'd opt to go to Bandon and simply stay off site at a motel in town.  You shouldn't have trouble getting tee times as a single.

Weather usually holds until Halloween then it is done, early October is some of the best weather for golf... Crisp mornings blue bird afternoons...

Note that you will be flying into Redmond, not Sun River. If it was me, I’d stay in Bend (much cheaper, more to do, etc.) and play any number of the courses in the area.
 

Vs. Bandon, it’s again less expensive, more varied courses, far less logistical issues. If you want to see Sun River, you can still play Woodlands.

As Seamus noted, you probably already missed the few really cheap nights in Sunriver.  Those are usually gone by March or so when they first post them.  If you can find one of those $169 nights (midweek is better chance), it's a great deal.  Crosswater is a fine course, but the other two don't get the love they deserve.  

 

We went a couple years ago the first week of October, and the temps didn't get above 45F.  Actually woke up to skiffs of snow on the ground one morning.  I called the pro shop and asked what the frost delay might be and the responded "you mean you still want to play...?"

 

Having said all that, if it's just weekend, go to Bandon, stay in town and you'll have no problem getting on most any of the courses as a single.  Getting to Sunriver from anywhere not in the region is only slightly easier than getting to Bandon (i.e., fly to PDX, fly to tiny muni airport, drive a half hour or so).
