HELP - value of clubs

Recommended Posts

There is a guy on Marketplace selling what looks like 1968 MacGregor MT Tourney clubs. He has 2 sets (right and left handed) and is willing to sell me both for $25.

I am trying to get into buying/selling/trading but vintage clubs throw me because I see some things show clubs higher value and then see them other places lower.

I don’t want to buy these for $25 and then work and grind to sell them for $50.

I also have screenshots but don’t know how to attach them.

thank you for any help!

If the sets are complete, it is hard to see how you can loose at $12.50 a set. However, vintage clubs, with relatively few exceptions, are not very valuable. Part of the joy for us enthusiasts is that you can pick up sets cheaply, try them, keep and invest in those you like and flip on the ones you don't. Few of us expect to make a return on these. '68 MT's don't jump out to me as being in the exception category. You will make a few $ on these but will have to work very hard to make big returns if that is what you are hoping to do.

Agree with Foozle. There’s very little actual money to made by flipping old clubs. Guess if you were lucky enough to buy a mother load at scrap prices but you’d spend an eternity making $20 here and $30 there and constantly on line and at the post office. Fantasyland really. At 12.50 a set that’s really cheap. Sounds like the lefty stuff is uncommon but…..The thrift stores I frequent they cost $3.99 up to $6.99 a club even if it is a full set. There doesn’t seem to be that many of us and finding truly valuable stuff is hard and takes a level of knowledge that’s so hard to come by. For instance the Old MacGregor persimmons from the 50’s can be valuable but also a massive risk. I’m not paying any where near top dollar for one nice or original unless it’s from someone I can verify or someone on here can verify the club. We all seem to like the chase the most. If there was real money to be made this would be the place to find really rich people. I have 9 full iron sets 50’s to early 90’s, 12 full sets of woods and a handful of single clubs and putters and pretty sure I’m very small time to many on here. Reality is I like my stuff, over half of it is playable with new inexpensive grips. I could maybe profit on 25 percent of what I have and not big profits. Whenever I’m done it would mean more to pass them on to anyone that would really like them than make a couple dollars and believe me it’s not like I couldn’t use the money.

Yes, there is a reason why they are 25$.

The market for anything but the very best, in mint nick, is how shall I put it...'soft' I think is the word.

He is going to have to work his butt off to make another 10$ when all he wants is to be shot of them. It's not worth the hassle.

Waste of time to expect to make a buck here.  Lots of newbies have same question.  This is not a trading info site,  go check ebay.
