ADVICE on 3W OFF THE DECK: longest?/most carry?/eat par 5's!?

3W shaft & head combos / high flatlining flight off the deck!
Looking for thoughts & opinions on super playable 3 wood combinations. Playability off the deck? High and carrying? New or old school equipment? Good length 43" etc? Who & what makes a killer 3 wood shaft? Par 5 birdie average goes up!!! Any .02 would be great! Thanx WRX'ers.

I had real good luck with that Rapture you've got in your bag now. I only switched to the Titleist because I wanted something with a little smaller profile and a little more playability. But I've found the f4 to be great - with the 13.5 I get a similar trajectory to most 15 fairways I've played, but a lot more distance. And no problems for me off the tee, even with the lower profile.

But that Rapture is great - long and straight most of the time, and there's a lot to be said for that.

Thanks SheriffBooth! It seems ever since I went away from a Sonartec ss-03 with the heavier Fuji-Prototype 70 shaft - I haven't had that deadly deck club. However, the Rapture 5 17* / NVS I have seems very strong and comparable to any 3. I don't know if I could do better with a 14*? I've already pulled out the 757 and put in an NVS 75g in the Rapture 14* and already hit it this morning. The ball flight seemed high enough and acceptable - but with long and good carry? It's too darn hard to discern much in the snow dome to make good, realistic comparisons! The early season may have to play out yet? I've heard the Burner TP's are great. Hopefully, I can get this sorted out by tee time #1 in 2008! Thanx.

I like the 906f2 with a v2 a lot. I get great distance with it. If you have issues getting it off the deck, I'd say go with the f4 (I haven't hit it, but all the hype says its supposed to help you get a better launch... not really an issue I have).

Another good combo I have found is the PING g10 fairway with a Grafalloy Prolaunch Red. Very easy to hit off the deck, sounds amazing, and has a pretty hot face.

longest fairway wood i've ever played is a nike t-60 15* w/ diamana blueboard 103 @ 42-3/4". an absolute cannon off the tee, and when my swing is on and i play a lot its great off the turf, but as i am not playing as much i've gone to the sq2 because it is much easier off the deck.

Haven't found anything yet to dis-own my t-60. You can also get em' cheap on ebay and spend some extra cash on a shaft that works best for you!

Adams 3070 LP w/ Accra Tour HF. Yes it's tour only, but some show up on ebay from time to time. Just got a backup 16* for $45 shipped!!

Anyway, the thing is super easy to hit, launches high and flattens out. some complain about the shallow face off the tee. But just tee up low and it is no problem. When compared to others, the face height is more medium than shallow anyway.

Second that, I've go the same set up in 13 degrees and it's massively long, not using a driver right now, really straight as well.

No fear of long Par 5's with this thing in the bag, you should give it some consideration

find a new or used v-steel and throw in whatever shaft you find that launches the ball high...clubs are amazing!

I have an older 3 wood that I really like. It's a Cleveland Launcher Ti (titanium) 15 degree. I think the head is gorgeous-it sets up perfectly square, and the face is neither too shallow nor too deep. My hunch is that the head has some deep and low weighting in it, because I had to put a YS-7 X flex (.350 tip) in it in order to keep it from ballooning. The shaft feels a little too boardy, but it gives me a good ball flight. The shaft is 43.25 inches. This was the stock length, from what I recall.

I actually have another one that is going to be my "shaft experimenter", because I don't want to mess this one up. I have a YS-7 S flex in that one that is too soft. I had that one shafted at 43 inches. My hunch is that you could probably find these for a reasonable price on ebay, although I have not checked.

I've heard the Cleveland Comp was pretty good as well, although I have neither hit one nor would I be able to tell you how it sets up.

I have used the 906F2 and F4 - I like both but I stayed with the F4 for off the deck with a V2 85. High launching head but the heavier shaft keeps it from ballooning - this combo hits it really well. The F2 is great off the tee - so I guess they need to make an F3!!!

I am on the search for the same 3 wood you are looking for. Since you asked, my advice is try everything you can.

I have tried the Ping, Titleist F2/F4, Mizuno F60 (13 and 15 deg), Fourteen SF206. I just picked up the TEE CB2 yesterday and will hit the range tonight and play with it this weekend.

If the CB2 does not make it in the bag, I will probably try the Sonartec and Burner TP.

F60 was a good 3 wood. Just wanted something hotter off the face. The TEE CB2 might be it, just might have to reshaft. The stock GD is 68g (I think). Would probably go with a 75g shaft.

You want Long, Go with the Tour edge Exotics CB2 It has the Same MOI as a driver. This Beast is LOOOOONG! I actually hit it past my driver the other day and used it the rest of the 14 holes remaining and hit the rest of the fairways, par 3's excluded.

170cc head

mine is 15*( they offer 13* 3+ wood, 16.5* 4wood, 18* 5 wood, 21* 7 wood)

Square Face (the 3+wood is 1* open face)

43"

V2 Fairway shaft, its the shaft that came installed. 75-s/81g/2.0 torque

The best part is that they Guarantee 20 yards longer than your current 3 wood maybe even more for some of you power hitters out there.

Simply put this club is amazing.

I am now thinking of taking my Bridgestone Driver out of the bag and Replacing it with Either the Tour Proto or the XCG in the Exotics line.

Now we are talking off the deck 20 yds longer or off the tee??? I'm hoping your saying off the deck. Can you clarify? Thanx.

Thanks tec333. Yeah what a quandry!!! Your the first to mention Burner TP. I'm looking real hard at Sonartec ss-03. CEE CN2 is another heavy hitter. So many shaft options nowadays too!

I know that my 3 wood is alot longer than my previous titleist its longer off the Tee and off the Deck.

Tour Edge Guarantees 20 yards it doesnt matter if its off the outhouse or the cartpath.
