i210 vs i230

Since the i230’s have been out for awhile now, I just wanted to see if anyone who has played both the i210 and the i230 could provide insight on the differences between the models.

i210 was one of the best iron sets that I’ve ever owned. Wondering if i230 is actually an upgrade from its predecessor.

Thanks in advance.

I have not played with both on course, but I currently game the I210’s. I have hit the I230’s quite a bit on simulator at my local golf shop. I find both to be very similar in the short to mid irons. The game changer is the long irons in the I210’s for me. I find them to be the easiest long Irons I have ever hit. I did not get that same performance out of the I230’s. Also, I give the advantage to the I210’s on feel, too.

For me, I will not be shelling out the money for the I230 upgrade. They are good clubs, but I find the I210 to still be superior.

I believe the i230 long irons are slightly shorter in blade length than the i210 so some are not converting for that reason. I hit the i210 many times but did not play them - I did not like that huge piece of elastomer in the back and they were shorter than the MIzunos I was playing at the time.

Longest iron I play in the i230 is the 5i and I played the i59 previously so a shorter bladed 5i is not an issue.

As to feel, I play with graphite shafts and believe the feel with a urethane ball with the i230 is fairly soft.

I can't tell you if it's worth the conversion. If in doubt, wait for the next iteration - Holland is still playing the i210. Of course, he is also still playing the G425 driver.

You are definitely right about the long irons in the I230 being a much more compact profile. From what I read, that was a request by a lot of the tour pros. As far as looks go, I think that falls on preferred look of the player. I’m the opposite of you in that I love the look of the back of the I210 over the I230. Something just looks off to me about the new I230 badge on the back.

As far as the next iteration of the I series for ping goes, you could be waiting for some time as they only update if significant improvements are made. I believe the I210 was in place for like 5 years which speaks for its quality. I have seen images of a new Ping Blueprint Forges S iron. If they are legit, they look way different than their predecessor.

I played the i210 since they launched. I absolutely loved them and have no reason to switch. So, like any crazy person I ordered a set of i230 lol.

My only complaint with i210 was the long irons had a lot of offset and larger profile than I would have liked. Performance was so good that it didn’t bother me much.

i230 fixed both of my “complaints”. As much as I loved i210, I do love the i230 more. Just like i210, the i230 are so consistent in terms of spin and distance, even when you miss the center.

I will also say I have gotten an uptick in ball speed and distance with i230 which was a nice added bonus.

If you’re wondering if it’s worth the upgrade, I would say that’s player dependent with what you’re looking for. I210 is still as good as anything out there. I230 is just as good if not slightly better in a slightly smaller profile.

Thanks for the feedback. Are you playing the same shafts in the i230 that you had in the i210?

I have both sets. My sets are built with completely different shafts, 110 Steelfibers in 230s and S400s in 210s. I do see benefits to the 230s but again it could be the shaft. They look better at address, the soles are a bit narrower, they seem to be a bit longer, fly higher and spin a bit more. I still think the 210s are more forgiving for me. The long irons seem easier to hit. If you made me sell one set it would be the 230s and I’d get refit for shafts and have the 210s upgraded. They are both great irons but the 210s are in GOAT status for their target audience and the 230s probably won’t ever achieve that.

Don't forget the technical aspects of the i210 - they've reduced fliers with the grooves and the spinsistency, i.e. consistency of each iron. That may be worth it. I enjoy the "look" of the i230 over the i210. But everyone is different. And yes, it may be 3-4 yrs before they get around to a new 2 series iron.

Still using the IE1.  Can’t see the improvements to be that great to the 200 210 series.

the 230 do interest me a little with the hydropearl thing for wet conditions.  I may be trying them out soon.  Also wouldn’t mind going back to the DG S300 that i have kinda played forever.  The DG 120 are ok but still in my mind that I play my best with heavy metal.

Did anyone notice a change, on those wet mornings, to the flight?   Did you spin them a tad better?
