Cleveland TA Milled putter Melanite / Gun Blue finishes.

At one time I had all four of the 1998 Cleveland TA Milled putter models. All of them had a dark Melanite finish.

I have seen descriptions of these models as Gun Blue and have seen some pictures of them in a Pro Platinum type finish.

The two TA1 Milled putters I have definitely have different finishes. And the Gun Blue is definitely lighter and bluer than the dark Melanite.

Both are awesome examples of the infamous 1990's Cameron Newports. 

 

Anyone have any info on the TA Milled finishes.

 

I need my head examined for selling off my TA1i with the copper insert, the TA2 long neck and the TA3 blade I will never know.

I know it's a crazy thought, but have you contacted Cleveland?

Looks like one is hot blued and one maybe Nitre Blued.  Very similar processes with the latter happening at a much higher temperature (can be done with the same compounds.)  Nitre Blueing will have the more deep blue color but can’t be done on critical heat treated parts, fine for putters.
