Pride and ego are feel good or socially obnoxious aspects of our character.  You can either use them to drive forward or they are quick to help you give up on yourself in various ways.

There is no giving up and nothing quick about getting older as it happens to us all. Keeping your pride and ego in check just helps to preserve our feelings and survive the game of golf a lot longer. Something I've learnt as I'm not ashamed of not being able to play blades as I'm feeling pretty good maybe even better now that I know my limitations and switching over to GI irons.

I’d suggest looking into hybrids for long iron replacement. I’m now a pretty firm believer that most golfers would benefit from hybrids in the long irons (18-25 degree), cavity/hollow body long to mid irons (26-36 degrees). Once you get to around 40 degrees of loft, I don’t care what you hit. Inside 130-140 yards, your shots should be closer to wedge shots anyway and you should be hitting the middle of the clubface often. It can be a blade or a continuation of your hollow body irons. Whatever you prefer and suits your eye. Blades and players irons are going to launch lower and spin more, which I prefer from that distance. Others depending on swing speed may still need higher launching irons at 130 yards.

 

golf tech can make a very big difference at 185 yards. At 85 yards, it’s all you.

Hey guys..

 

I know im resurrecting a thread here, but I wanted to give an update.

 

I am now playing ZX5 MK2's 5-PW (w new RTX wedges) and a 4H SIM hybrid. My local fitter is a good friend and was overstocked on Srixon and Cleveland and had demand for Titleist so we did the entire bag swap (no metals) for free!! 

 

Gained yards, cleaned up some gross dispersion numbers and I am a happy camper!
