Ping ISI Tec Woods

Since I’ve been happily playing my Ping ISI irons and wedges for the last few months, I decided to make an entire ISI bag, so I picked up a couple of Ping ISI woods.

 

Just like the ISI irons, the ISI woods have a very funky design which I like.  Very interesting design using a plastic hosel between the head and shaft which were made at different lie and face angles.   I’ve found a list of the hosel codes explaining the different angles, including a 4* upright hosel code for the fairway woods.   I don’t see a hosel code for 4* upright for the driver though, just 2* upright.

 

Anyone ever play these woods and do you recall there being a 4* up option on the driver?

It's actually "effective trajectory."  The Tec hit the ball lower than the original TiSI, and folks were looking at buying the wrong club.  Hence the ET tag...

I took the driver out on Sunday and was pleasantly surprised by how long this thing is.   Once I adjusted to the stock shaft I hit drives of just over 250 on the last three holes of the round.

 

 

I really like the compact size of the head but what really has me intrigued is the hosel.   I went ahead and ordered some replacement hosels from Billy Bob’s and am going to experiment with the lie angle by filing the plastic hosel.

 

Unfortunately, the 5-wood I bought arrived snapped in two, the third club I’ve had broken by UPS in the past month, so haven’t gotten to hit it yet.

I really like the ISI Tec fairways.  The silverish and greyish paint actually looks really awesome if you find ones in good condition. 

 

ET as some mentioned above is Ping trying to account for people who would otherwise purchase lofts that are too low to be effective.  If it says 8.5, it's probably actually 9.5 or 10.

The driver I bought is an 8.5*, I measured it at 9.5*.  Nice trajectory for me but I also bought a 7* head only that I plan on throwing a Rogue White in just to see how it performs with modern shaft.

Can u share the hosel codes?  I used to know them.  I have a 8.5 RSS that I used in my Florida travel set.  Weird looking club but it works well!
