Modern Iron Most Similar to Tommy Armour 845?

By today's standards, the T845 is a small head size.  I guess the Titleist 620CB is a comparable head size. 

Even the current cavity back irons with a thin topline, such as Mizuno JPX 923Tour are significantly longer head size heel-to-toe than the TA 845.

Maybe the forthcoming Ping Blueprint T cavity back will be of similar head size to the TA 845?

Honestly, there are NO modern irons that are even remotely like 845's.  The 845's have a ton of offset, are modern players cavity in size, and have very low bounce.  

 

My suggestion for your friend is to simply go to a shop and look at EVERYTHING.  Then demo the clubs that agree with his eye.

That's what I was saying, yup! That's what I liked about them. They got through the rough well back in them days when we still had real rough on most courses unlike these days LMAO

Well, with the new Mizunos coming in the 24 series, those are supposed to be smaller than the current version, may be that's the way to go, wait for those.

Current club engineers and the CAD systems they rely on do not understand the functional benefits of a relatively short heel-to-toe length. The compact head size combined with perimeter weighting (cavity back) is why the TA 845 was a great design for all skill level players, from beginner to Tour pro.
