Arizona trip

I’m headed to arizona with my dad in February for a birthday trip. We’re from Canada so looking for that desert golf experience. I’m planning on playing 4-5 rounds. So far I have:

grayhawk raptor

wekopa cholla 

Southern dunes

I wanted a cheaper last option I can’t decide between, gold canyon sidewinder, Papago, sterling grove or if anyone knows of another cheaper option let me know!

Sidewinder is skippable in my opinion.  Papago is a really solid value.  It's a tough course, it's a good overall layout, and it's ASU's home course so that gives it some allure.  However, it's really not that pretty and it's still a muni track if that makes sense.  

 

Sterling Grove is a unique course overall.  I really like it but it's a housing track course.  The community is in the earlier stages of build out but there's either houses or construction lining every hole.  I do really enjoy the course. 

 

I'd also look into: 

- Whirlwind... either course, not sure if this will still meet the 'cheaper' definition but it's a step down from the others you listed and it's still very good

- Talking Stick... Coore/Crenshaw design, pretty solid layouts and always in good shape

- Eagle Mountain 

- Longbow

- Legend Tail 

 

If you enjoy walking, the TPC Scottsdale Champions course walking rate is the absolute best deal in the valley.

To add a couple of more to above (primarily around the cheaper options).  In Feb, you will have to drive to get cheaper and the quality will be lower.  But you could do Estrella, Verrado(not cheap, but cheaper), Copper Canyon or Vistancia. All in west Phx area.   

 

Sidewinder is a huge no from me.  

 

Side note: I think you would do yourself a disservice if you didn't play Wekopa Saguaro - and you could do their 36 hole deal.  But it may not work out timing wise.

I could only play one of the WeKoPa courses, coming from Canada I just thought cholla looked more like the desert style we were looking for.. but if you suggest saguaro over it, i would switch it. Thanks

You can't really go wrong with either course at We Ko Pa. Cholla is a little more demanding off the tee and into the greens for that matter. Saguaro has more room off the tee and slightly larger greens.
