The continuation of the downfall of society...https://standrews.com/articles/old_course_singles_daily_draw_news_article All good things must come to an end.

I'm going out in July.  Will be in St. A's towards the end of the week immediately before the Open at Troon.  I was fully prepared to do the queue, and hopeful that I'd get on after just a little bit of suffering, but am now honestly worried that this severely hurts my chances as a single during what I imagine to be a very high traffic time for tourists.  There's definitely a chunk of the cushy tourist golfing community who wouldn't have been willing to do the queue but will sign up for the new ballot system that I'll have to compete with for a slot.

Oof.  Terrible news, I fear.

You don’t happen to know anyone over there that would want to play with a 5 handicap and a 7 on TOC do ya???

Fraid not. My dad has a couple r and a member friends but I don’t. My friend I play with there is a new club member and he has a set number of points for guests so he uses them on real friends I am afraid.

was down in St Andrews today; usual good atmosphere despite drizzle rain and 40*f - seems lots of visiting golfers already. Didn’t get near a course but had a very average lunch at forgans, dad had a great lunch there 2 weeks ago.

@hammergolf how hard is it to walk on jubilee or new course as a two some?

they are all completely booked in the area for our trip. They also said they will try to rebook your round if you prepay and if they can’t rebook to a time that works for you then you forfeit the pre paid green fee.

You should be able to get on but I would check the tee sheet with the starter to see what times are available on which days. Another option is as a twosome you can book an advanced time. I’m not 100% positive but I believe St. Andrews will credit what you paid already and put it towards the TOC green fee if you win the ballot. I would send an email to St. Andrews to confirm but that might be the best option.

They are booked for reservations.

they said via email that they would try to rebook within our trip if we got onto TOC if we had other plans then we would forfeit the money.

it sure seems like they are trying to push people away from playing TOC!

That sucks! Yeah it certainly seems that way. I think that’s a new policy about forfeiture of prepaid green fees. Sad.

Very much. So now I’m in the debate. Do we say screw it and book other courses. Do we wait and try our luck which is very slim and then scramble to hope to get on somewhere else?

As much as it suck’s, seems like the best option is to book other courses so you have a place to play. However, still apply for the ballot and single que each day. Worst case scenario you loose the prepaid green fee if you win the ballot or que, but will be getting to play TOC in return. I’d take that trade everyday.

Crail, Anstruther, Elie, Lundin, Levin are good options. Will you have a car?

Talked to a very nice lady via email from St. Andrews today. She said that they reserve 50% of the tee times on Jubilee and new course for day prior and day of tee times. So looks like if we don't get on the ballot as long as we are in the area we should be able to book a time for the next day..
