Putter search help

Recommended Posts

Evening all,

I’ve been searching for a while for something that seems to not really exist.

I’ve been looking for a slant neck black, ideally black or dark coloured head with a line on the top flange (as opposed to the back flange obviously).

Ideally said putter should be around 36”

in length.

what company offers this as I’m tearing my hair out trying to find something.

I seen today Scotty is releasing his new holiday putter, but ticks all the boxes, however expensive and 34.5” so would require sending back to California to get correct length.

Any help most welcome 🙏

Wasn’t really looking at any price limit or range, specifically. Just wanted to know what’s out there.

it wouldn’t specifically have to be a blade, although it is a preference.

Sik was a consideration, but they come a little upright for me. I think lie angle would have to be around 69/70 degrees whereas I believe they sit at 72 if I’m not mistaken.

I’ve never actually rolled a Cleveland putter, so may be worth a go

If it's not a blade that makes things easier. You can also get the SIK bent, I've been down the SIK rabbit hole and since the company doesn't exist anymore it's hard finding original specs, let alone whoever you get it from having it in those specs.

Tri-Hot and AI-Milled putters I think have slant neck options with top flange line and they're in a darker color.

Evnroll 5.2 or 5.3 for mallet or mid mallet.

Cobra would have some options.

Definitely more choices once you get into mid mallets or mallets.

The SIK putters you can have bent to spend at a shop along with almost anything else you buy. There is also the Ping Kushin 4 2023 but it's 2 tone.

You could always go the cheaper custom route with like a Goodwood who would cost a bit more than and OTR Bettinardi or Scotty or maybe like a Connor James if you want something a bit more different. There's also Meridian but they have a mid-slant neck on their blade but they're very well prices.

It is interesting that it is so difficult to find a blade putter with the line on the topline. I wonder if it is more expensive to mill or something along those lines?

I find it hard to believe that putter makers have research showing that most golfers prefer the line on the flange when we see so many top blade players using just the opposite. I wonder if it has to do with shelf appeal.

There are a couple of mainstream companies that have done it, Taylormade TP Juno, some of the older Odyssey White Hot Pros.

Maybe it just has to do with eye dominance? It's commonly thought that you want the alignment aid to match up with your dominant eye. A lot of players have their dominant eye as the side they play from (right handers tend to have a dominant right eye), so it just happens that it's good enough that manufacturers offer line on the flange rather than the topline.

It's also that the specific ask here is not just top flange sight line, but also dark/black putter, and ALSO slant neck. If it's just all blades with top flange sight line it opens the possibilities way up.

Also consider PING custom, or just do what I did and get a naked PING (if they make slant neck, idk) and have someone add a top line. I actually used nail polish on my naked anser

I have wanted to have a look at the ping pld custom stuff, but as I’m in Scotland, it’s not available to us so can even navigate the website.

I think the best option would be like a BB1F with top line. I see odyssey infrequently so putters with a top line then go back to a line on back flange as standard. I think as stated above, most people are right handed and also right eye dominant, so I think there is more catering to the majority rather than anything. However in this day and age, you’d think you could get pretty much any combination of line up.

I’m left eye dominant, but right handed and a clean head with a line on top definitely suits my eye a little better. The slant neck may be up for debate as I was hoping for something with max toe hang (to suit stroke) and less offset (left eye dom/ right handed).

I feel like I may be torturing myself a bit as I do putt fairly well with my putters, but I have been chopping and changing recently. I think if I had this unicorn putter then it would dispel that feeling of wanting to change if I had what I knew worked for me.

With that many specifics it's usually time to go custom cause will be a lot of close an no cigar with what's out there.

Do you have any Edel dealers out by you? I think part of their fitting process includes figuring out eye dominance and aim, and then there’s a lot of customizable sight line options from there. I’m not sure you’ll get dark club or what their hosel options are but could be worth seeing what they’ve got if you want something that incorporates customizable options plus a fitting component.

I think you’re right, just get sick of the likes of Scotty and his only for tour efforts that look genuinely great and then see what Joe Public gets hit with. Bit of a shame, I’m sure he could sort me out if he really wanted to haha

Haven’t got a clue, the Eden thing isn’t something that I’ve heard too much about. Their sight lines looked quite clunky from what I can see, but I know they do a bit with eye dominance

Edel wouldn't be able to get him all  of what he wants fitting wise just the aim and honestly the aim you can just do it at home to find you eye dominance in 5min.

That's almost every OEM except Ping and Bettinardi but Bettinardi costs $$$$$ for a custom and Ping isn't cheap either but you get a tour experience.

To get what you want usually have to go to a smaller brand and you're often talking to the owner about your needs and wants.

This was a consideration, however, I don’t fancy the insert, either surlyn or alu. I’m going to do a wee test for direction bias, and if I confirm my suspicions that I aim right, I’ll buy a odyssey ai milled one t (even though it’s got a plumbers neck hosel)
