WITB: 2024 Start of the year.

Happy with my bag, I think the driver is only club I could see being replaced. It is my strongest club from my Arccos data, but I think my distance off the tee makes that a little skewed. Excited to get some warmer weather and really see what these new irons can do for me. Hopefully this year I can get the wedges to not be such a sore spot in my game; I’m usually losing 3-8 sg from 100-in. Also, the superstroke s tech cords have been a nice change. This will be the year I finally can break 79.

Dr: Mizuno ST-Z 220, project X smoke rdx blue 6.5 60g tipped 1/2” playing 44.5” (Love the new length, not sure I like how light the shaft is and the head can be spinny. Might be on the docket to be replaced.)

3i: Mizuno Fli Hi, project X smoke rdx black 6.5 80g. (Good club, not sure I like how thick the sole is. When it’s good, it’s great. When it’s bad, it’s really bad. Might look into a 7 wood.)

4i-PW: Takomo 301CB/MB, DG TI X100, BB&F Maneater. (Just got this combo set, loving the first impressions.)

51*&55*: Mizuno T22 Raw: DG TI X100&S400, BB&F Maneater. (Love these wedges, they might not always love me back. Could use a higher bounce in the sand wedge, but I’ll save money and get good.)

P: Meridian Mid-Slant, custom copper insert, smooth face, Lamkin Deep Etched Cord, Showhand cover. (Love the look, feel, and the custom stamping. Should probably play my SC 5.5, but this one just looks too good.)

Bag: Titleist Players Hybrid 14 way

Ball: Titleist Pro-V1X (might change to the V1 because the X is a little too hard off the putter.)

@bhard315 I played a $100 set of stock MP-14’s throughout high school. Then finally two years ago I got fitted into Ping i210’s. Those were good for me to get back into golf after college, but I missed the control of blades. For instance with the Ping’s I couldn’t control distances as well, like I couldn’t hit my pitching wedge under 120 yards. It was time for an update.

Finally got out for 18, first time this year with the weather. The game is very rusty, but I shot an 82 with two balls OB. The new irons were great other than me pulling everything 10 yards left. Not sure what was wrong with my swing, straight ball flights that just started left and never came back. I had positive strokes gained short game, a rare sight, and finally broke 30 putts with 29 putts. For a cold February round, it was nice to have a decent score despite the errant approach shots that went out. Getting closer to better weather, and hopefully better scores.

It is Showhand, one of their recent releases. Very good quality and nice materials, especially for the price.

Thanks! The driver is hit or miss. For the most part it is pretty good, and when I am playing with someone new they always comment on how good the driver sounds and how I hit it. Personally, I wish I had something different because it can get way too spinny at times. When it is good, it can be a rocket, but I wish it launched higher with lower spin.

  • 3 weeks later...

Finally got in another round on Monday, and it was a rollercoaster lol. I STRUGGLED with the driver all day, and I even changed the hosel setting from -1 loft UP, to just -1 loft. It didn't fix all of the issues I had, but I was able to finally make contact again. The driver was the worst part of the round, I couldn't find the center of the face and was hitting off of the low heel so bad I almost missed the ball a few times before changing the loft sleeve. I was striking the irons great, contact was fine, but the direction was awful. The story of the day was everything was going left. It was starting left and then curving left. Even when I would set up open to the target and feel like I was cutting across the ball, it would come out as a pull. Maybe my lie angles could be too upright, but I am needing to work with my Prosendr on the range to see how bad my swing has gotten over the winter. Bright spot however were my wedges on the back nine and my putting. I am notoriously bad with my short game, and I have been known to play ping pong around the greens from time to time, but I have been using a technique of "plant and pivot" around my lead leg. This one swing thought has completely changed the contact pattern and low point of my wedge game. I was struggling on the front nine, then remembered this swing thought on the back nine, and wow 9/15 up and downs on the day. That leads into the true bright spot of the round, I had 25 putts on the day. 12 1-putts and only 1 3-putt. I was consistently surprised to see the ball rolling so good on my line and into the hole. On the front nine it was longer putts going in, and the back nine the wedges helped by getting me closer to the hole. All in all, not a bad day to shoot an 82 from the tips with a RUSTY golf swing. Maybe this is a sign to get a driver fit to see if I need a new shaft or a whole new build, to be continued...

Despite the recent driver struggles or maybe due to the recent driver struggles; new addition to the bag. Got a great deal on this from the BST, excited to take it out to the course!

That Meridian putter looks smooth.  How is the copper insert?  Looking at doing a custom order through them...especially because they aren't far from my home!

I actually ordered fly cut, but received a smooth face. It’s the best putter I’ve ever used, and my putting has never been better. The copper insert on the smooth face does more for audio than in hand feel. I would recommend it for nothing else than the looks! Also, I used the promo code ParTrain and I got 25% off.

Nice! I have the ST-G 220 and love it. I do perfer smaller headed drivers so that new ST-G intrigues me. However, I hit mine very well so it will stay in the bag for while. I think you will love that driver.

Had a good 10 hole round this weekend (hole 10 on my home course is between hole 9 and the club house), driving is coming together (ST-G 440 is MUCH quicker than the ST-Z 220), wedges are excelling, and putting is holding together even on punched greens. Game is feeling good at the moment, I have a golf trip coming up next month and hope I can keep up the good form. I still need to get more comfortable with the new Takomos, just gotta stop hitting them off the toe so badly.
