Weekend golf trip help/suggestions

So my brother in law is getting married and we want to do a little trip with him and his brother and dad, four of us. I'm trying to get an idea and suggestions on some places we haven't played before and what could be a good fit. We are located in the Houston/Austin region so pretty much anywhere south of Dallas is fair game. Time frame is pretty open this year outside of August simply because of the heat for my father in law. Here is what I have looked into so far. Curious if you have any comments. Would prefer a place where we could possibly hang outside and grill one evening maybe in regards to condo/house on site. Also not opposed to renting an air bnb and playing courses within the area. Most likely just be a Fri/Sat night stay and three rounds of golf.

any other suggestions would be great. I also put an inquiry into TPC San Antonio, but that might be outside the budget. No more than $1k for golf/rooms.

Pine Dunes/Tempest both have stay and play options.

You might also be able to get Horseshoe Bay under 1K depending on the dates.

We have family in the Athens area so we play Pine Dunes fairly often. Looking for something different this go around. I agree though if we weren't from the area it would be a great spot for what I am after.

I second Horseshoe Bay. I went in Sept 2020 and paid $200 for a room and 2 rounds of golf. I've looked and looked for that coupon again but can't find it. The deal may have been there due to Covid and no one traveling. But I'd think you can get 3 rounds and 2 nights for less than $1K each.

We got a group getting a giant air bnb and visiting #7 for the weekend (at least 3 rounds) next month. I’ll report back. The prices for the golf/stay seem reasonable, and I think if you stay on property in their cottages you get a complimentary round over the weekend.

The Cliffs was awesome.
$50 round on Friday at 1 then 2 $90 rounds on Saturday and Sunday morning. The course was super difficult, but was in pretty dang good shape. We stayed in an air bnb in Strawn about 15 minutes from the course that slept 12 people and had tons of fun stuff set up there. There were no cart girls so come prepared. Overall golf and lodging was less than $400 a person. They would allow you to play an extra 9 over the weekend for an additional $40. The restaurant at the course was a little pricey and I didn’t really care too much for my meal, however, others loved their meals. Their breakfast and pizza were the most talked about. The green fee came with unlimited range balls and a decent warmup area. We saw more deer than other golfers on the course. Friday the weather started out as an overcast 65 degrees and dropped 30 degrees and had sustained 40 mph winds so bring gear to the parking lot in case you gotta change mid round or later up. The elevation was also pretty cool.

overall, I would highly recommend. It’s difficult, but beautiful. The first day showing up everybody recommended loading up on golf balls. It was a reasonably cheap getaway and I can’t wait to go back. Even if it’s a day trip and driving an hour and a half away from Fort Worth, I look forward to going back. The second time around you have a better idea of course setup, so you shouldn’t lose as many balls if y’all play multiple times.
