Yamaha Golf clubs for juniors?

Recommended Posts

I just saw a kid playing with Yamaha this week, not sure where the kid is from didn't really get to chop it up with his parents, but he seem to be fully sponsored I assume, since kid was all out with Yamaha hats, golf bag and shirt. I went checked online and notice damn they are pretty expensive!

Anyone know about these or seen anyone using them? I didn't even know Yamaha made golf clubs until this week.

Never seen them in the wild before, but I think it would be a great conversation starter.

I've seen how a lot of very high-end JDM goods, beyond just Honma and Miuras, don't make it to the states.

Back in the 90's I traveled over to Asia and was blown away by all the high-end electronics we couldn't get over here.   It felt like the US was getting the leftover food scraps.

Also Yamaha could just be a parent company for some more familiar brands, similar to Dunlop is to Srixon and Cleveland.

Like many Japanese conglomerates, Yamaha produces everything from motorcycles to musical instruments.

Back in the 80's/90's their ski production was pretty good, and they did sponsor junior racers.

But, unless a kid is growing up in Asia or has family connections, I don't see Yamaha going out of their way to support junior golfers.

The kid was Asian not sure if the family was local or not, wish I had started a conversation with them, just curious about the brand especially the price one would have to pay to play them.

I tired Honma before didn't really think much of them except how expensive a certain models can be. After seeing the Yamaha prices on their Drivers and irons, I am itching to swing a few of their clubs to see if their product matches the sell price.

This kid with Yamaha clubs must be from Asia? I do not think Yamaha have any presences in the US due to them not having any left handed clubs ( I can be wrong here ).

I have never seen any junior gaming this brand but I will say, most Japanese clubs are well made, and from look at the prices online they are not CHEAP at all, I doubt any junior from the US will want to game them at the prices I see with TM, T, C, and C as the brands most kids want to game.

I was in Taiwan without clubs once and the club I played only had one set in stiff shafts and it was Yamaha.  I was happily surprised by how good they were but not so much that I’d pay up just to buy a set.  They were very good clubs though.

How would you compare them to the clubs you normally play with? I have heard the Yamaha plays a club longer, but not due to any special Japanese science but more so they set their lofts and angles like a 6iron. I play with TaylorMade P-MCs and love how well my balls sits on the green compare to the 790’s

Thanks. On a different note, how’s golf in Taiwan compare to the states?

I wouldn’t go to Taiwan just to play golf, but if you are planning to be there anyway, there are some good golf courses.  Old Tamsui CC is my favorite and Miramar with 36 holes by Jack Nicklaus is good also along with some others.  Food is very good in Taiwan and very inexpensive compared to the US.

yamaha has made clubs for at least 60 years. reasonably popular in japan. good quality irons and woods. i have a yamaha driver from about 10 years ago as good as any new one. they were pioneers in titanium heads long ago.

I agree Yamaha always put out a good product, but I just do not see anyone paying up for them in the states with all the choices we have.

I have stayed in Taiwan for some time, I personally believe Thailand is a much better Golf place to visit and the food is just as inexpensive. The course I played in Taiwan were challenging but not sure I can say is fun, some of the courses I played the greens were horrible and SLOW! Old Tamsui and Miramar are two good suggestions  for Northern Taiwan area.
