How much money would you need to run your own private club?

I don't know what our maintenance budget is but we do have bent greens and plain old bermuda fairway grass. And we, meaning our superintendent obviously, manage to keep our fairways and greens in much better than average shape considering the limited resources for a club our size.

That's the sweet spot. Just pay your greens staff well or they'll abandon you in a heartbeat.

The real answer is you can run a club with whatever number you choose, but you will never have enough to satisfy everyone. But also no one is going to work for you if they have to go into debt for the "opportunity."

Lol. I'll sneak on somehow. Private clubs are easy to hack.

But honestly, go for it, in this current market you can probably make it work, but construction and material prices right now are through the roof so plan for that.

This would be a really interesting topic to quantify once you get all of the real numbers on the table out of pure curiosity. On a local level I know for a fact that many Los Angeles area based private clubs have irrigation bills of roughly $50,000/month for both the irrigation and the additional water surcharges currently being added on by municipal districts since approximately 2021. This means that their operational budgets have been getting blown out of the water - no pun intended.

Yeah we are probably spending about $5000 per day for water in Dallas when it doesn't rain.
