Phil with the LAB and Rory with the mini were not on my Masters bingo card.

 

The mini is especially interesting, but I guess for Rory, if he hits good drives on the 5s he's hitting irons into them so might just fit his tee shots.  I think especially 13 where he can just hit a ripper draw and not worry about it going through.

Be interesting to see if Rory actually puts the mini driver in play. Maybe using it as his "draw" club for the holes that need a right to left shaped tee shot?

For a guy like Rory it makes sense to have the 2w.  Set up the driver to optimize a straight ball/fade then use the brnr when you want to turn it over.  That being said he is pretty good at drawing the ball with the driver but maybe his stats say he needs to go that direction at the top of the bag?

His swing and preferred shot shape off driver is always going to be a draw. Doesn't mean he can't play a fade with his driver but he's not going to gear his driver to be fade bias.

 

His draw with a driver off 13th tee will still go through the fairway. He has to play a hook hence why mini driver brnr might work better.

Yep I just think of him ripping it off 10 and 13 could be a big advantage.

I know he loves the draw with the driver but he hits it both ways and a straighter ball bias on the driver might be what he is looking for hence the brnr.  or he needs something that goes a certain distance that he can control better than a less than full driver.   I just think there are options better than a traditional 3w for a player that can step on a 5w and hit it 290 carry off the deck.

No way he going to tweak his driver the week of to hit a straighter ball/fade bias flight. He was hitting his usual high draws last week when it looked right to his eye and no need to change that considering how good he has been off the tee.

 

Worst thing you can do is all of sudden change his feels, starting lines, and shot shape the week of. Just stick to what works and that been his normal stock shot being a high draw.

I've been seeing Rory hit a lot of fades with the driver this year, wonder if he's committing to that and using the mini for exclusively draws.

I think he has been hitting it straighter the last few months off the tee.  I'm not saying he is hitting purely fades but there doesn't seem to be as much draw as in the past and i've seen a lot of fades too.  the squeeze fade with the low tee seems to be a play he is more comfortable with the last few events. my point being that I don't think he is changing anything on the driver and that its setup to draw less perhaps than years past.
