Swing journey

Recommended Posts

Stiff firefighter here and longish time lurker, love this forum,  I’ve been playing a few years and every year I get a little better and a little more serious

about improving.

This year I’ve changed my grip, posture, and am trying hard to feel like I’m shallowing the club.

I received a swing tweak and the instructor said I need to create more depth in my backswing which I am trying to do here. Another issue I see is losing my posture and standing up in my downswing making it hard to not come over the top?

I have the time and resources to practice I just need some insight from you all!

I tried ( I watched your swing alot). Not an instructor so don't know much. Pretty good looking swing to my eyes. May need to get your butt back more in the backswing. It looks like your pelvis comes towards the golf ball some.

Thank you! I was beginning to think I was talking to myself here lol, I agree with your statement now, although I wonder if it’s all kind of connected to what I’m trying to fix , shallowing, losing posture, etc

What I’m learning is… everything is connected in the golf swing. It’s like dominos.

losing posture and not turning the hips properly in the backswing are two sides of the same coin. I think.

You might consider the idea of side bend (in your frontal plane) which might help you avoid raising up between shaft parallel to ground and shaft vertical in backswing.

I don’t even know what the frontal plane is. So remember to take everything I say with a grain of salt Jpost.

All of the issues are created by incorrect pelvis rotation in the backswing

can you recommend any drills and or feels to start working this issue?

There was a video on here recently with an instructor. He talked about feeling as if you’re pushing to “3 o clock” with your trail leg right after the take away.

I’ve tried to find the video and can’t. But I think the feel is golden as I have the same issues.

for me.. I pretend my right foot has wheels on it. And I’m trying to push out my wheelie foot to 2 o’clock right after the takeaway . If 12 o clock is the golf ball.

i think it does two things.. loads the trail leg and then moves you back towards the target and into your lead leg.

As a lefty, you would feel like you’re pushing your wheelie left foot out to 10 or 11 o clock. If the golf ball is 12.

the video is somewhere on here in a recent post.

Practice turning against a wall with no club to get the feel

That’s what they’re trying to accomplish!  I believe in particular it’s Noren and Rose that do that preswing movement exaggerated.

Hello everyone! Just wanted to give an updated video addressing what Monte brought up as my problem.

Here is me swinging my 3 wood, I tried not to move closer to the ball through out the swing but still have a very over the top swing.

Comparing this swing to others I think I need to squat into my downswing a little but I am unsure if that is a symptom of something else.

Thanks for all your help I’ll keep grinding!

That's still not quite it.

You want to do more like this (this is exaggerated):

:39 second mark. Do that drill over and over and over and then do it more.

I love drills and will try this but I have been trying to create this feel and can’t seem to do it at full swing with longer irons. I thought maybe a mistake somewhere else in my swing was creating  that

The steepening move you have will take a good bit of time to see results. You will have to do that drill for a couple of months before you see anything meaningful happen in your swing.
