Bettinardi Inovai 10.0

Went to Golf Galaxy today to try out some putters.  Currently using an Odyssey Stroke Lab 7 and tend to pull everything so wanted to try out something with a little more toe hang.

Tried out the Bettinardi Inovai 10.0 with the mini plumbers next and jumbo grip and wow it was nice.  Drained putts from all over.  Loved the feel, weight, sound, grip....only thing I did not like was the price tag and was not a huge fan of the looks.  Unfortunately they are so new finding one used is not much of an option.  The closest I could find that I putted almost as well with was the Odyssey 3T jailbird but also not in love with the white stripe on that one and did not like the feel as much.

Are there other options in the mid mallet / large blade type space with a 30 degree-ish toe hang?

Other options I was looking at was a used Toulon Atlanta (seems to have more toe hang) or a used Studio Stock 35 (like the looks better and can pick up a used one for around $300).

If you are pulling things, why do you think more toe hang (which closes the face) will benefit you?

Almost any fitter will absolutely tell you that is incorrect.  I have a lot of arc in my stroke and a fitter at the Ping plant told me to run if a fitter ever suggested a face balanced putter.  We both said it would make me pull putts and I needed the toe hang with that stroke.

I was not aware of this. I’m a face-balanced user 100%. I actually hold the face slightly open through impact. I’m wondering why a toe-hang putter would prevent pulling when it literally promotes rotation through impact.

I am far from an expert putter but I do consistently pull my putts left with my #7 which is face balanced.  I also have an Odyssey Versa Works #1 which has a moderate amount of toe hang and tend to hit that just a touch right, just not fully comfortable with the small blade.  Interesting thing I've found is that if I move the ball a ball or two back from center in my stance I hit the #7 straighter but don't get as nice a roll on it.

If you feel like trying it... place the ball in your normal stance, where you make good contact and get good roll, but try to have very little follow through after impact. If you look at a lot of the golfers on TV, you will see it is quite normal for many of them to stop dead very soon after contact.

I have the same tendencies, to close and accelerate through impact (needed to get on quintic to realise it). I've worked at a shorter follow through and so far everything has improved, without any effort to think about path or rotation. Speed control took a little while, because I've pretty much had the same tempo forever, but it's getting quite good now. Maybe worth a shot at least. 🙂

I may have to give that a more extended go.  I tried it briefly the other day after watching some YouTube video that mentioned it.  The ball did go straighter but like you mention I felt my distance control was way off and it felt like I was punching at the ball.

Toe hang can also lag at impact and push putts.  In the end, each type of putter can do different things for different people... and none of them can correct things for all people either.

For me, most pulls are wrist/hand problems.  You can pull putts with any putter.  Try wrapping your lead hand so far under the club that you cannot supinate the wrist/hand any more - like palm facing up.  It should be slightly uncomfortable at first.  The is an easy fix that keeps the putter from closing at impact.

I personally push many putts with a face balanced putter. When I switch to something with a lot of toe hang, my miss often becomes a pull.

This is what happens to me...but I also believe adding toe hang to your putter will make it worse.

this is correct, more toe hang actually slower rate of closure

archy putting stroke usually benefit from slower closing rate of putter face

you can try get the blade putter and put more lead tape on the toe side, that will most likely causes push

at the end of the day, 'a properly fitted' or one that just coincidently fit your stroke, will have the correct face amount of closure rate with your hands feeling
