Wilson irons choice - help me out.

Hi guys 👋.

Have registered for the Forum but still waiting for approval but here goes......

Long term player of 50 years, handicap fluctuates between 8 & 12. Always had Wilson irons, currently gaming the original FG Tour and when my ego allows, the FG 100, both with the same DG S300 stiff shafts. I can hit both sets well but seem to favour the FG Tour, even though I was brought up on tiny Wilson Sam Snead blades.

I've been offered a set of Wilson V6 with DG S300 AMT stiff shafts at a very good price (to me) and I've read enough to know they're a decent club.

Being married to a "not in slightest bit interested in golf" woman, the only way I could get the V6's is to sell the two current sets.

Question is, are the V6 that much better than the FG Tour and would I regret selling the FG 100's as well just to get a more modern club?

Might need to know a little bit more about you. SS, level of forgiveness you're looking for, etc. Since you've been playing for quite a long time, I'm guessing you're around 70yrs of age? Are you considering more of a game improvement iron at this point? Although, you're HC is quite good. 

As for your question, and it's just an opinion, but I don't see a whole lot of difference going from what you have to this slightly newer version. Iron technology moves at a snails pace, so doubt you would see a huge improvement, but if they are suitable for your game in terms of fit, turf interaction, eye, they might help you. 

I play a more recent model Wilson, the C300 forged. which i believe followed the V6's you're looking at. They also came in a game improvement non-forged model. You could probably be in the same price range with these, and they are fantastic. The subsequent models of WIlsons are no better, or perhaps worse than the C300 forged. 

If you wanted a much bigger jump, the latest Wilson model, Dynapower forged, look really good, but doubt you're interested in that expense.

And that's part of the dilemma lol.

To fund the V6's, both the FG Tour AND the FG 100 will have to go (wife says so). The V6's are on Ebay UK, private seller, at an equivalent of $288. The used value is in the FG 100's at approx. $200, the FG Tour are only worth maybe $70.

The FG 100's are not far off the current WS Model blade in terms of design and performance, so I'd be looking at mega $s to replace in the future.

But is the V6 that much better than the original FG Tour? Are they going to shave say 6 shots off my round? I think not, so I think I've answered my own question - keep both current sets as they've served me well so far 😉
