How to hit a hybrid.

When you hit a hybrid, should it be more like and iron or like a wood.

I got got a new 3 hybrid. Should I hit i more like a fairway wood or and iron? and how far should the "turn" be? Greatly appreciated

i unno really i sweep the ball regardless of club. Driver to 6 iron for me is more of a sweep unles im in the rough, more steep with 7i and lower so i guess hybrid falls into driver-6i for me and it would be more of a sweeping "wood" swing. But then again i have a 19* hybrid, its pretty hard to put a steep iron swing on that.

Depends a little on the specific hybrid that you have...but in general the ball is back in your stance like an iron, and hit down on the ball and make sure to take a divot in front of the ball. Do not be afraid to hit down on the ball, the divot is easily made. Obviously a 6i-hybrid is further back in your stance than you 3i-hybrid, not sure what one you are talking about. It is not completely an iron swing, but much more iron-like and much less wood-like.

I found out a long time ago that I played a hell of a lot better with one swing than two. In other words I do not have a different swing with my woods and my irons .

 

I do set up different to them as in ball position.

 

 

I find when I am hitting a straight away shot I play them pretty much left heel like a fairway wood. If I need to flight it lower or hit it out a less than stellar lie I play it back a little like a mid iron

Hybrids are supposed to be hit like irons, from similar ball positions, and with a descending blow.

 

Whenever I hear that someone can't hit a hybrid it's always because the lie is too upright or the player is trying to sweep the hybrid like a wood. Both these techniques generally lead to low, left shots----as in hooks!

I put it a little forward in my stance ala fairway wood but still hit down on it and take a divot this also allows me to keep the flight down a bit and gain some extra distance. The best bet is to experiment a bit and find out the best position for you.
