You can go the home improvement route if you want to look like a chopper. If you want a true tour alignment aid try the Titleist tour issue alignment aid, tour only graghite and only $400. I also hear Taylor Made is coming out with a TP version.

i guess i go 'old school' for an alignment aid and use the broken titanium shaft of my driver from when i was 16

Expensive tastes there. I use an old Dynamic Gold driver shaft to stick in the ground. No exotic materials for me. The old titanium-shafted drivers and 3 wood are still in one piece in my bag store with the Taylor Made Burner heads still attached. :cheesy:

I've never understood why the age-old method of using a club on the ground for alignment seems to have gone out of fashion... :)

i acutally don't stick mine in the ground...just lay it on the ground for an alignment aid...

but i do have an instructor that i see that uses the rods. and he does indeed stick them in the ground. i will say that when you take your club off path and nick one of them....there is a is a bit of give, they are quite flexible....much more so than a regular shaft. instead of using the rod, i usually toss an impact bag inside my take-away path. works for me.

too each their own though....

Ah. I stick my old steel shaft in the ground as a plane marker and put clubs on the ground for alignment. The shaft's complete with a 20 year old Victory cord grip that's now so perished it looks like alligator skin.

Those old Sandvik shafts were strange beasts.

Regardless of how they played, whenever you used to lean on a Ti-shafted driver I remember it bent alarmingly and ended up looking like Robin Hood's longbow - even under my flimsy teenaged frame.

I played some of my best golf with one of a few Ti-shafted drivers. Happy days... :)

Ok - just picked up two at Lowe's. They were $1.99 each...no brainer as I like to lay two clubs down for alignment...one on target and one parellel left for my feet...won't have to worry about taking out one of the project x's now...

I must have gotten the tour only version since they were more than $.89. :)

I just use one of my clubs in my bag for alignment....why carry something you don't need?

because I once took a nasty chunk out of two of my 588 wedges

laid my 53* on the ground as a alignment aid and manged to hit it with my 60* because I was lazy and didn't move the 53* while attempting to hit a flop shot, yes it was dumb but that still didn't help the fact that I gouged both clubs

I figure if I snap a $.89 driveway marker its much easier to replace, plus they weigh almost nothing

The reflective strips with suction cups are interesting but now the same idea. I do know of a new product coming that's better than the rods and makes more sense. We'll see.

Thx Kev......I can't say, but i do know it's being tested as we speak. Hmmmmm. :cheesy:

Or you could do like the big Vagee or whatever the hell those kids call him and put a brand new Matrix TP-7x in the ground at the range. I could see rareguitar doing this

I wonder if that's his opinion of the shaft.....using it for a training aid. :)

Just kidding.

I just use one of my clubs in my bag for alignment....why carry something you don't need?

Because the pros do it!

It's actually done because those sticks are parallel for their entire length. Golf shafts are tapered and give an ever so subtle feeling of either being slightly left, or slight right of the actual target (depends if the butt of the shaft or the tip of the shaft is toward the target).

This feeling is uncomfortable. And, if you put one just outside your line and just inside your line ( l l ) and swing between them, it doesn't damage the shaft of a club if you hit it. The pros are good, but when they are working on their swings, they don't always hit the ball in the center of the face...

Dude, driveway markers are anything but straight.

Admittedly it's a long time since I did any trigonometry, but I reckon, in the case of a mid iron, with an average thickness grip fitted, the angle that's created along the length of the club is a smidgeon less than 0.7 degrees due to the taper effect along it's length.

In the case of hitting to the 150 yard marker, you'd be about a yard and three quarters out (either left or right depending upon which way you lay the club down...)

Now that's in the realms of Langer's 'Is that yardage on that sprinkler head from the front or the back of the plastic?'

:)

Now I know why, after 20 yards of using a club on the ground I'm always about 3 yards off-line with my driver...

Just kidding.

off topic...

Becareful of putting those sticks in the same sleeve pocket as your woods. Even with headcovers on they can scratch the top of your woods. In appears that the sticks in the picture have some sort of rubber piece attached to the end. MINE DID NOT and I learned the hard way. :)

I second that. Always have some rubber attached to your stick or you WILL learn the hard way ! :cheesy:
