Senior Golfers - which 5 wood

75 mph swing speed.  playing a Ping G430 Max 10K driver, stock 55 gram shaft, R flex.  I got it working very well choking up 1/2".  My other driver is a Titleist 910 D2 12* head on a Ventus TR Velocore 5R shaft (the aftermarket one).  If I catch the 910 D2 it goes higher and a bit farther than the 10K, but maybe not so consistently.  Feels great.

 

I have been playing a Ping G25 5-wood for years, R shaft.  Lately I have been having trouble elevating that club.  on a simulator today I have a TSR1 20* fairway with a Tensei AV Blue (with X link) 65 shaft, regular.  I hit that club about 170.  I have a TSR1 18* fairway with a Ventus Velocore TR 5R shaft.  I don't hit that club as easily (consistently) as the 20* with the Tensei Blue 65R.

 

I would like a 5-wood for my fairway wood.  Should I pick up a TSR1 18* with a Tensei blue 65R.  Should I try a TSR2 18* with the Tensei Blue?

 

Most interesting shot of the day was with a TSR2 24* hybrid with an Atmos Tour Spec Red 75 R2 (senior) - almost 170 yards.  I also have a TSR1 26* hybrid with an Atmos Tour Spec 75 Regular.  I hit that about 150; the ease of the TSR2 24* with the senior shaft was unexpected.

I have used the G410 5 wood for 3 years and it's the best I've ever owned. I think all the newer Pings are great but something about the G410 is special for me at least. Good luck in your search.

What shaft are you using, and what is your swing speed.

 

By the way, there is some great golf in Nova Scotia.  I have played Cape Breton Highlands in Ingonish.  Stanley Thompson is very underrated outside of Canada for laying out courses.

Hi, I'm using the stock shaft-Alta CB 65, reg flex.  Driver SS is around 95. Lots of great golf around me these days haha. Cabot is simply an amazing place, Highlands is good, used to be better. Another Thompson gem is Digby Pines in Southern NS.

Be 63 in two weeks. Certainly not that fast anymore. I put 5 wood back in the bag this year. Mizuno STZ with Motore X F3 7-s. Loving it. Very consistent and high. I play it 210-220 or so.

I would alternate between 3 five woods depending on which one behaved the best. They were a Cobra SZ, Cally Rogue and a Ping G25. All good clubs but lately for every one shot I would hit well off of a fairway lie I would then hit a stinker the next time. I have discovered the last couple of seasons that I am more consistent with hybrids having lofts between 20 and 24.  I give up some  yardage but eliminate tops, pushes, fats, and all the other bad results you get with fairway woods.

Same with me.  Also have the G410 7 and 9 woods. These are just awesome, not sure why but they just work so well.   Shafts are the stock alta CB R flex.  Now the challenge is to get my G430Max 10K working better than my G400 max.  Have ordered a different shaft to match what I have in the G400max and see if that works.

I'll second the Cobra SZ.  I play the 3 and 5 wood.  Really easy to launch. Great both off the tee and the ground.
