Shaft Length - Swing Weight

Recommended Posts

I'm playing a Hazrdus Green TX 60 and 8° qi10LS with a 6 gram weight in the back weight slot. Golf pride MCC Jumbo grip.

Shaft length is currently 45.5 and was looking at cutting the shaft down to 44.75 to get a little more control, more centred hits but I'm concern that swing weight will drop significantly.

Would I need to add more weight in the head or am I just over thinking this and should be ok?

Thanks!!

It all depends on how anal you are.

If less anal - then just cut the sucker down and head to the driving range with some lead tape. Hit it and apply weight to the head (or not) until it feels the way you want it to be.

If you are super anal - then go down the swingweight/tipweight rabbit hole...and good luck!

You may or may not need to add weight to the head.   The one important thing to understand is that you should not try to keep the swing weight the same.  The SW rules are not useful in this context.   Just go to the range with some lead tape and do some testing adding the weight back ~2 gm at a time until the feel and performance is good.

do this but I believe your answer is 10grams. I play mine at 44.5" at D5. I do this as I like a short driver that is a hammer. I also it helps bring the shaft back to original flex (before cutting it) .

As stated, there are no rules. I’ve shortened my last two drivers from 45.75” to 44.5” and didn’t have to add anywhere close to as much weight as the calculations showed to get it back to its original swingweight. I went by the diy driver fitting guide that’d been posted here several times by Howard Jones, and both drivers have worked much better for me then they did in their stock form.

Lopping off that much length will noticeably change the swing weight.   If you want the club to feel the same as it is now, you will have to add weight.

Out of curiosity, do you have any idea how much you ended up adding?
