SKYCADDIE SG5 "BUG", ISSUE.. ANYONE ELSE CONFIRM THIS OR EVEN NOTICE IT??

For some reason it seems the date function of your watch is running on GMT. Midnight GMT would be 4pm on the west coast, add in 1 hour for daylight savings time which the satellites do not use and you have 5PM

i am trying to figure out why my unit is doing this,, since there is NO setting to change the GMT Zone..

so if it is just my unit, why would my unit be any different than anyone else's??? i have tried to do a GPS reset and it still does the same..

Sorry, I don't have a GPS (I'm a laser range finder guy :good: )

I was just trying to infuse a little logic into a topic that seems to have gone astray.

well thanks!! yeah this topic is funny!! you seem to have some experience in what i am trouble shooting,, my research has directed me to exactly what you are stating as the reason,, so what do you think the possibilty is that my unit is defective?? knowing that the SG5 does NOT give any setting for time zone,, the only adjustment the SG5 offers is an hour adjustment.. i believe that since this is the case, ALL SG5's in the United States will have a DATE mis read, UNLESS the unit was bought in Greenwich..

what do you think??

I don't own the SG5 or know exactly where it gets its time/date info from, but have you checked the time zone setting on your computer? If it is set to GMT maybe that setting is being set to your SG5 when syncing. Just a thought :D

so after a few attempts, i finally got ahold of a level 2 tech at skycaddie!! i was informed that ALL SG5's are fixed in the GMT time zone AND there is NO way to adjust the time zone setting!!!

so if you're in pacific time, your sg5 will always be 6-7 hours ahead, depending on DST, and even though you can adjust the hour setting, the internal clock is set at 6-7 hours ahead, if you're in central time adjust that by 2 hrs and eastern time, 3 hrs.....

i can't believe that that don't have a patch to upload by now when direct connecting to correct this bug.. but oh well,, i guess i'm just a lot more observent than the above posters..

this finding has made me rethink which GPS i want to keep on my bag!! there seems to be a whole slew of new ones coming out right now, and i'm sure i can "off" my sg5 on ebay for top dollar!!

I still don't understand why you are so upset. If the hour setting can be changed, what difference does it make what the original setting is? And I don't think that there is any kind of patch that is going to allow the unit to know what time zone you are in.

 

The more I think about this, the more I think that maybe it isn't the skycaddie that needs a patch...

I understand what you're saying about this time/date issue, but honestly I would rather see a software change for a better UI experience. I think the UI sucks on their software. For me living on the East Coast, the date issue is not an issue as it would occur at 8pm. Honestly dude, use the best thing out there and check your watch for the date. It's not like you're out there signing documents and need an accurate time/date device. Leave that for the office.

yes, this thread is still going,, maily because idiots like yourself reply with garbage!!! i am not the one who PUT the time and date funcyion in this unit!!! it's there for a reason!! the reason, so that players like myself can check the time during play!! is it my fault that i am one of few that observed that the unit/software has a bug ???!!!

It all makes perfect sense to me. The T&D part of the software is obviously the last consideration on the list of skygolf priorities for obvious reasons. But for all the haters who amazingly have nothing better to do than flame this bloke for noticing it, go and get a life, play bloody golf or something. Get off your high horses. It bothers the guy, fine, fair enough, it's a pretty basic thing really and should function as expected. SG confirmed it as a flaw, done deal. I did notice when I first set mine up that the only option for time setting was +/- hrs. Clearly they haven't linked date function to that adjustment. Doesn't bother me, but it would bother some. That's fair enough. Now someone shut this duck soot down. :friends:
