TFC129 shaft flex question

I'm going to Golfsmith tonight to pick up a G10. Unfortunately, I don't have the benefit of demoing one at an outdoor range, so I'll have to rely on the monitor data.

 

Can someone tell me if the TFC129 shafts plays true to flex? I have typically played a firm flex in Callaway shafts (95 mph swing speed, medium tempo), and I'm not sure whether the stiff TFC129 shaft will be too stiff for me. Ideally, I'd like to know the frequency numbers for the regular and stiff. However, if no one has that information, I'd just like to know whether the shafts play true to flex, softer, stiffer, etc. Thanks.

I didn't care for the TFC Stiff in the Ping G10 3 wood -- a bit too low launching for my liking. Stiff for a 95SS with medium tempo -- my guess is that if you load the shaft decently, it will be fine.

 

I think there are better offerings in their custom shafts.

 

But I did like the ProLaunch Red Stiff in a 10.5 G10.

TFC129 is one of the best OEM shaft offerings available, it does play a touch soft but its extemely stable and has a very nice spin/launch factor and is dam long in the right hands.

I HIGHLY suggest you give the stock V2HL a try also. Don,t be thrown by the HL designation.

If you tend to hit medium/high with ss of 101-105 then go with the TFC 129 Stiff or the ProLaunch Red stiff (Driver and fairways)

 

If you tend to hit the ball low with a ss of 101-105 then the V2 HL stiff maybe the TFC 129 Stiff. (Driver and fairways)

 

The SS will determine the stiffness of the shaft, if you have a ss of 90-95 then go with regular but same flex pints and shafts as above. etc..

 

If going Hybrid then you want to go with a little more active tip: TFC 129H Stiff. Prolauch is very stiff tipped in the hybrids.

I have a SS between 93-95 and went with the 10.5 G10 with TFC Stiff flex. It plays much softer than other Stiff flexes in different type shafts. It did not feel boardy or hard to load at all to me if that helps. I tried the Stiff first and knew after hitting a few balls that the R would probably feel too unstable.

Consequently, I stayed with a Rapture that I bought with the Aldila NVS R shaft and it seems to play a bit stiffer than the TFC Stiff in the G10.

Just got back from Golfsmith. Ended up with the 10.5 TFC129 stiff. I tried the 10.5 regular, but the shaft felt very soft to me and hard to control (especially at 45.75 inches). My swing speed is about 95, but sometimes it gets as high as 97 (and as low as 93). The stiff felt very good to me.

 

 

 

Spydaz, dDo you think I should have gone with the regular?

 

EDIT -- I just read Dukesweb's post and see that his SS is about the same as mine and he went with the stiff. Dukesweb -- it sounds like we both felt the same thing with the regular flex.

Now that you say that you are up and down with your swing speed i think you are better off with the Stiff in the TFC 129D. Thats what i would have went with plus you get the benefit of growing into the shaft. You will not regret it when you get comfortable with the set up and really start to jump on it. Also do not forget about dispersion. With the Stiff shaft if you hit a ball off center the head will not twist as much as a regular shaft giving you a more accurate shot over and over again with no major gaps in distance and trajectory Unless the end user screws up.

 

I am just a strong swinger and transition very quickly and i hit hit high naturally so i am perfect candidate for the ProLauch Red stiff (Or Fuji Red Fit-On with the Hibore XL) when it comes to my Driver & Fairway.

 

With my Hybrid i went with the TFC 129H Stiff because i wanted a somewhat flexible tip to get the ball to drop like a bomb with very minimal roll. The V2 HL Stiff was like a space shuttle taking off of the pad!!! Way too HIGH!!

 

Good luck with the G10 your gonna love it, i am so close to adding it to my arsenal (Not trading the Hibore XL)
