Anyone still hit old Taylormade woods?

What shaft do you use?

I am not a fan of todays larger sized fairway woods. I just picked up a pair of old taylormade woods. Specifically a 12* Tour Bassie, and a 16* Tour Raylor. These are the original Taylormades that say Pittsburgh Persimmon on them. The heads are about the size of a ball, maybe. I am wondering if by some slim chance there is anyone out there that still hits these. And, if so, what shafts are you using. I am preferencial to steel in my woods, and that is what's in these, but I don't know the flex, so regardless, they are getting reshafted. Any feedback is much appreciated. Thanks.

Not sure if this heps, but I still use my old Titleist PT 3 wood, which is just slightly bigger than the raylor. I have a DG X100 in it and it feels great.

About the oldest TM wood I use is a 510 TP with an Accra T60. Wish I could find another one.

I played an old Taylor Made Tour Spoon for years and only semi-retired it about 3 years back.

 

It still occasionally gets an outing when I need a strong 3 wood in the bag. Shaft-wise it's the old Flex Twist Graphite. It's a fantastic club and it's one older club that still seems to work well with the modern balls. A lot of older clubs - particularly the old 150cc metal drivers - don't seem to work too well with the lower-spinning balls, but the older TM fairway woods are still good performers.

While not quite as old, my retro spoon (13*) is the same size as the original. It's shafted with a speeder 869, my all-time favorite fairway shaft. I don't think they're sold in the US anymore but tourspec may have them. Good luck.

I don't use old TaylorMade woods, but I do use old Walter Hagen/Arnold Palmer woods/drivers. All of them have the original shaft on it. I use the Walter Hagen woods more because it's got a flexy steel shaft and it feels awesome when you hit it center, not to mention I only swing the clubhead around 83mph.

 

If anything, I'd just switch to a shaft that's similar to feel/flex/weight.

I have the original Titleist PT 15 that I found in the bargain bin at a golf store.

 

It had a really whippy steel shaft in it so I swapped it out for an Aldila NV 75-S and I like the results quite a bit so far. The shaft may seem a little light for the clubhead but I kind of like the way I am able to feel the clubhead rather easily.

 

I know it's not the same model of FW you're looking to reshaft, but they're close. Hope that helps.

I just picked up the Retro Spoon 13* and Retro Raylor 19* (which looks just like a modern hybrid). I put a graphite design YS-7 in both and love them. i can hit the spoon almost as far as my FT-3 tour driver.

I play a Taylor Made Burner Bubble Titanium 15* 3 wood, popular around 94 - 98 I think.

I've got a two retro raylors and a retro spoon on ebay right now. my ebay id is ccorrada.

 

Both have GD YS-7+ stiff shafts.

I use TM Firesole 3 and 5 wood. They have the bubble shaft on them. I haven't found anything I can hit more consistently than these.

I put my HiBore XL away and put my r580 XD back in my bag with stock shaft.

I got rid of my r7 Quad and went back to a R580XD TP. According to TM's marketing machine, anything more than 2 weeks old must be obsolete.

Still on to the R7 425 TP 75. Will not go larger. Actually if you pay attention to today's head size, they seem to come back to smaller size...
