Bushnell Yardage Pro Tour vs newer Scout 1000??

We purchased a Bushnell Yardage Pro Tour Golf Rangefinder (may be out of production) and have trouble holding it still enough to pick up a flag/flagstick at 100 yards. The question is: Do you have the same trouble picking up a target due to not being able to hold it still enough with the newer models, eg. the Scout 1000? We were told by the seller that we needed a tripod - which seems to be a non-workable solution on the golf course...

I have the Scout 1000 and a 1500. Have never tried a Yardage Pro tour but depending on what you paid you might considering returning it. The Scout is $248 at Walmart and Bushnell is offering a $50 rebate.

 

I've only used the Scout at the range so far but have not had a problem with any flag inside of 200 yards. My hand shakes a little but I can get a reading within a few seconds usually. Last week at about 230-240 I was having some trouble with the Scout. Someone mentioned a tip to change from pinseeker mode to scan mode but I haven't had a chance to try it out yet. Also if you are having problems try holding it differently (vertical or horizontal).

How would you compare the two? I sold my 1500 because it was getting to be too much as I wanted to carry more this year but I'm intrigued by the Scout.

I have had a range finders since the late 90s. I have seen a definite improvement in the ease of obtaining an accurate distance in the most recent models. I currently own a Nikon, and have no problems ranging in the flag up to 250 yards, even when the flag is not flapping. I don't yet have any hand shaking, but would think that you should be able to get accurate measurements even with hand shaking - just hold down the button and aim. Eventually, the reticle will hit the flag.

 

Another possibility - with your driver in the bag, use it as a a tripod, by resting your range finder on top of your driver cover. Still much quicker than pacing off yards.
