Slazenger Balls?

are they as bad as everyone says?
Hi, everywhere i read everyone says slazenger golf balls suck. But i know often people just dont like certain companies....so are they really that bad?
The reason i ask is because they are really cheap which is good, but i dont want to waste my money when i could get decent bargain balls like zips or noodles for 5 dollars more...
thanks for your help

I think slazengers as made by dicks really stand out when compared with other truly awful balls. They do go long, and resist the wind very well. They don't feel great off of irons, but are not the worst offenders, and strangely feel soft off of the driver. They offer more feel off a short chip and putter than truly awful balls like the topflite xl3000. The worst thing about them is on greens they just roll and roll until they stop no matter what you do.

P.S. The Raw Distance Series, the noodle and the zip are all totally different balls. If it were me, I'd get the noodle, the zips balloons on me. Raw Distance is fun, but very limited.

To answer the question, no they are not. My dad loves them and I picked up a dozen Black Labels for like 23 bucks a week ago. I really like the Black Label alot. It spins like crazy and it has decent distance (shorter than the Noodle though). I liked them way better than the Zips. The Zips felt too soft, the Black Labels were just right.

Yes, the black label is a very good ball. I've used it. This ball checks, while the regular RD series will NOT! It is the one bright spot in Dicks Slazenger lineup.

A new Dick's just opened up in my town. I was putzing around in there yesterday and checked out the Black Label's. The box advertises seamless cover technology and they're made in Japan. Sounds like Bridgestone to me. I asked that very question of the staff but they didn't know. Being a betting man I'd lay money that it is Bridgestone ball that is either made for Dicks or repackaged for them.

the Black Labels are pretty much repackaged Precept U-Tri Extra Distance balls.

seriously? how do you know that?

I have about 4 dozen of the Precept U-Tri Extra Distance balls that I picked up for $5.doz. I bought them because they were so cheap but I'm not too impressed with them right now.

admittedly, I'm having some trouble with my swing lately but they don't seem consistent or controllable at all when I do have the odd good swing. inside of 105 yds., they're completely unpredictable.

has anyone had any good results with this ball?

This is what I heard the Slazenger name was bought buy Dicks for the US market just like they coopted the Walter Hagen name here . Allegedly the Slazenger Black balls (Which I thought in the old days was the bulata ball can't remember but there used to be a Slazenger ball I would paly instead of the Titelist DT's and it was almost as good for half the cost.) Well these new balls are allegedly made by bridgestone three piece ball seemless cover. I bought two packs on fathers day they were marked down to 14.57 a dozen. (The guy at my local Dicks had a Dicks internal literature thingy (bullet selling points) he showed me saying that was the deal on those balls) They were giving the RAW away also but the boxes just annoy me.

They feel good to putt and I am one of those wierd people that carry hitting balls and putting balls to swap out once I am on the green. So right now I have been putting and practicing chipping with them and they feel pretty good. If it ever stops raining here in NY and once they get Bethpage up again next week I am going to play 9 holes probably on the Red, or Yellow after work and we will see how they feel off the tee.

If they are decent I am going back and grabbing four or five boxes at 14.57 per if not I have a decent supply of putting balls.

The Black Lable ball feels nice off of irons, and great off the putter, is has very good short game manners. This ball spins enough that you can be agressive with chips of pitches cause it will hold if spun properly. Dispite its good points, I don't play it. I find this ball shorter than others. The other day I hit a 9 iron that had a great line, and looked like it was going to hit the green near the pin, which was tight. It held the line, and seemed like it had everything it needed to get there, but came up short by about 10 feet. Its a nice ball, but not for me.

And unless you are spraying balls all over the place, and must play cheap balls, put the ball you tee!

Black Label was before the brand was bought out by ****'s Sporting Goods.

Their balata was excellent back in the day, but like MacGregor, they are a shadow of their former name.
